How are folks enjoying secret invasion? (No spoilers)

After the past few marvel shows were disappointments, I haven't picked this one up yet, but I'm intrigued

I haven't seen this week's episode yet, but so far I'd put it in the top third of the MCU D+ shows.

It honestly doesn't look bad at all. It actually looks pretty fun.

The potential issue is that Marvel's big, second-half-of-2023 movie requires the audience to have seen not just Captain Marvel and Endgame, but THREE Disney+ series - WandaVision, Ms. Marvel, and Secret Invasion - the latter two being some of Marvel's least watched series. Obviously, we're reaching the point where any of these movies require a relatively deep knowledge of MCU history, but two of the main three characters in this thing having been introduced on Disney+ seems insane to me, and like it's really going to limit the audience here.

It's fine. Nothing super special yet, but it's enjoyable. Hoping the payoff is big.

I was really looking forward to returning to a more "grounded" entry in the MCU, one with political intrigue and especially Nick Fury, but man, personally, I find it incredibly boring. It's just so weirdly sleepy and flat and I simply don't care about a single character or event. It's not bad at all, it just comes across as the bare minimum effort. I'd also be perfectly fine never seeing another Skrull in this franchise again. The way the filmmakers chose to depict their plight in this series is especially baffling.

Overall, it's yet another Marvel Disney+ series where I'm watching purely out of obligation, to check a box for the next thing, but I don't know how much longer I can keep that up.

disagree. they even briefly explain it right in the trailer - " i see light" " she creates things with light". bla bla bla

and of course there will be a scene where they compare notes/explain who they are/where they come from.

i mean.. even DS2 only referenced Wandavision in like 2 sentences in the beginning of the movie. the other later story beats tat tied in WV could be inferred by what we got on screen just in the movie..

It's not just about the historical knowledge, though, and delivering a couple lines of exposition to fill in that gap. It's about the emotional connection, or lack there of, to the characters. I don't know, it just seems like not a great situation, when you have frequenters of this very thread essentially wondering who the black woman is when referring to a character who basically looks to be a co-lead.

This isn't most movies, though. It's a Marvel movie, and the 33rd one at that. Which comes with certain expectations, both cast/character-wise and box-office-wise. If it feels like a C-team effort to most people, Disney is going to get C-team result, financially speaking.

Speaking of which, can someone explain how seeing light is a super power? I mean, can't pretty much everyone see light? Or was this meant to be some sort of joke?

it is one of her powers

  • Spectral Vision:
After having her cells altered three times, Rambeau gained the ability to perceive various forms of energy beyond the capacity of a regular human, and was able to use this spectral vision to detect mystical energy running through Agatha Harkness's cellar and Ralph Bohner's necklace. When she first got her powers, she could also see the energy coming off of the power lines. Whenever Rambeau's powers utilize, her eyes glow with different colors around her entire iris, turning it into a different color.

Interesting. As someone who has no idea who this character really is, I really thought this seemed like the lamest super power ever. They probably should have explained it better, or left the line out of the trailer. When I heard it, I thought, "Who the f cares if you can see light? I can see light, as can anyone who is watching the trailer."

I really enjoyed the first season. I recognize the issues Marvel has had since Endgame but will stay excited about this season until proven otherwise.

Indy! You're just best friend! Pretty powerful Trailer but then again, Marvel has always been proficient in that area. Fingers crossed this delivers like Season 1! My fear is people watching this that aren't super "dialed" in are going to have a true "unmmm.. what?" Feel for it.
