Anyone going to post reviews? There isn't even a reactions or spoiler thread?

They're...not great.

They're so bad that the summary of them on the Rotten Tomatoes homepage is just a statement of fact.

Just finished Maul. Those final three episodes are peak. Up there with the final arc of TCW.

The vibe I have gotten from the reviews is that the movie should have released on Disney+ and if it had, people would have loved it as a fun adventure and been more accepting of the lower budget shortcomings.

But as the first movie in years, it didn't have enough substance to reinvigorate the franchise. That it was basically a good streaming caliber movie and it is getting punished because it wasn't more.

I think if Disney had announced a two to four week theatrical run and then to Disney+ then the reviews probably would have been better. The more I read on it, I think the correct decision was make this a Disney + movie To build back some Star Wars momentum and let Starfighter relaunch the franchise.

I am optimistic that it is a fun movie, but probably will wait for it to come to Disney+ and not burn a vacation day to see it in theaters.

I am very curious what other people on this board say about it.

Agree. Such a great ending episode. Can't wait for the next season.

I was hoping Vader would make some reference or indication that he recognizes him as the guy who killed Qui-Gon.

I watched Jeremy Jahns review of this….

Essentially he said it makes sense that they screened a lot of the beginning of the movie…the first 10-15 minutes he said are actually pretty dang good and it's like John Wick combined with the Mandalorian….but it all stops there….

Pretty much the rest seems like it plays out like a video game with Mando handling a few monsters and there's really no major stakes….and apparently they make Grogu really inconsistent with his skills and competency….he's skilled and can use the force when the plot needs it and he's a dumb kid who just pushes buttons when the plot wants him to be cute and funny….

So it's a kid movie where this **** happens all the time...

I do wish there was a serious Star Wars movie like Rogue One - high stakes

The Yuzzhen Vong type of scenario could be really good

There were no high stakes in Rogue One. Everyone watching knew how it ended before it began. IMO, that's the problem with almost all these newer movies that are set in the middle of existing Star Wars canon, we already know the main story line and how it goes.

Please write some new material in this galaxy of worlds.

So, quick question for the SW fans on here, something I've been thinking over this morning....

I keep hearing, in defense of the Disney Star Wars products, the following argument - "Star Wars has always been for kids, so stop complaining about the silly stuff in the recent Star Wars shows!"

However, my take is that the OG trilogy, at least ANH and ESB, were movies that kids could watch and enjoy alongside the adults in the theater but they weren't kiddie movies. If you catch my drift.

Yes, ROTJ ventured into "kiddie" territory with the Ewoks and 99% of people nowadays say that was the weakest part of the OT. When I rewatched TPM the other day I could see a clear difference between the CP3O/R2-D2 moments of levity in the OT and the sheer stupidity of Jar Jar.

I think the Disney+ shows, outside of Andor, have catered way too much to being "kiddie" instead of being simply something that kids can watch alongside their parents. Its this fine difference that has turned off the majority of long term Star Wars fans who are giving up on Disney Star Wars.

Now, go ahead and tear me a new one (but hey, if you do enjoy the Disney+ stuff more power to you, no ill will here).

There's no reason that Disney can't make Star Wars shows or movies that appeal to either kids or adults or both. Andor and Maul have been great.

I am going tonight with my 14 year old kid because he was invited by his best friend and their family and tehy all wanted to make it a double family thing.

I fully expect this movie to be completely horrible, not because the reviews say so, but because almost every movie in the entire Star Wars franchise is completely horrible

I would say the real problem is nobody at the top is keen to move away from proven money makers. They'd rather have Mando/Grogu make $175 m at the domestic box office knowing full well it will make hundreds of millions in toys and merchandise rather than rolling the dice on something that veers off in another direction and have it be a flop that also doesn't sell any merchandise or promote any theme parks.

Plus, all of the success is built off the original trilogy. The prequels were dazzling visuals but they all were just a 6 hour journey to seeing Anakin put on the Vader mask. There wasn't a new story, just how we got to the first story The sequels, which I enjoyed more than most, were just familiar beats on the original theme - a random kid from nowhere rises up to defeat the #1 evil and redeem the #2 evil.

The first season of the Mandalorian was the most original thing Disney has done since it took over, but then it needed to tie back into the world of Luke Skywalker. I love the 2nd season of Mando and have watched the Boba Fett, Luke and Ahsoka episodes over and over, dozens of times, but it's still a new property making a U-turn to the old neighborhood.

For Star Wars to have the guts to really go in a new direction, Starfighter has to succeed in a big way. They certainly seem to have all the tools in place for that to happen with the cast and the director.

I think the one fallacy in your statement is that "a majority of long term Star Wars fans are giving up on Disney Star Wars". I think it's just the opposite. They are the ones still thrilled by the like of the Ahsoka and Obi-Wan series - I know, I'm one of them. Star Wars is losing its popularity because the new stuff isn't resonating with kids as they move into teen years and young adulthood because their first experiences with the saga are either not that memorable or with characters that aren't "theirs" - they aren't all that new. My generation got the OT in elementary school and then went 16 years without a new movie, but were just as rabid in 99 as we were in 83. I was 9 in 83, 25 in 99 and saw TPM three times on the day it came out.

I can't see kids today having the same fervor when their exposure to SW is on the small screen.

Agreed, I'm not saying it has to be one or the other. But I would say that the current spectrum is:
95% kiddie & 5% adult

I think it should be more along the lines of:
25% kiddie & 50% for both but not kiddie(like ANH and ESB) & 25% adult.

Going tonight with an open mind. Expectations have been set and I know I'm basically just getting a long episode of Mando.

Hope it's more like S1-2 and not so much S3. But I think at the very least I will enjoy myself.

I have nothing Star Wars related to currently post….

I was today years old when I discovered that Arby's has a 10 lb meat sandwich on their menu….

I just wanted to share because I am in utter shock and I can't be the only person who was not aware of this.

But now I know…and you know…and knowing is half the battle…

It does feel like that basic thematic conceit was already done in The Last Jedi. "Let the past die. Kill it if you have to" and all that.

Happy to report that was actually pretty fun. I would say better than Solo.

It did drag a little in the second half, but had a pretty cool final act.

Saw Mandalorian and Grogu this evening and it was awesome! It was a lot of fun and I loved it. The critics can jump off a cliff. Like a previous poster said, just relax and enjoy Star Wars being a fun ride for a change.
