I'll replace Freeman/Shore with Chuck Heston once again. Moses has to be on the list!

Dustin Hoffman, Peter O'Toole and Michael Caine are 3 others I think deserve strong consideration that haven't been mentioned.

The problem with this is that there are/were more than 10 truly GREAT actors.

i will give you nicholson and brando without a doubt. deniro and fonda are up for debate but i would have a hard time leaving them off the list IMO.

Pacino without the Godfather wouldn't even sniff that list whereas DeNiro or Brando would. He doesn't belong in the top 10.

The problem with Pacino is, ever since his awesome performance in Scent of a Woman, he has done that exact character in every single movie. And he has made some really bad movies the last few years.

DeNiro is a much better and complete actor.

Note, I do like Pacino and he has certainly had some iconic roles and movies. But this is a pretty prestigious list you're talking about. This list is obviously skewed for more recent actors. I think you'd have to include someone like Lawrence Olivier in the discussion as well.
