Profession as a kid thread inspired me here. Not implying you're not happy with your current career but if you could go back, would you pick something else?

I'm a network engineer but I've always been fascinated with weather so meteorology for me.

analyst. Would probably be an accountant, entered a technical trade, or play 3rd base for the astros.

For some reason, being a tailor or a boot maker really appeals to me.

I'm a professional musician, which includes trombone performance, music arranging, and music publishing. I should be adding composing to that list soon. This is where I should have been to begin with, but life got in the way, so I am, in fact, getting that do-over and moving into the profession I wanted.

I also do HR consulting with my major expertise in the ADA interactive process and reasonable accommodations for employees.

You're unlikely to find someone who likes his job less than I do. I don't want to get specific, but I'm in IT and feel like my age (50) and earning history are holding me back when it comes to getting a job that I'd enjoy.

The link below is an interview saga for me from last spring/summer. It's basically par for the course for me in Mid-Missouri over the years that I've lived here. I've more or less stopped applying for work as it's depressing to fail again and again.

Finance, Intelligence Analyst for the CIA or working for a professional sports team would interest me.

I'm an engineer, really more of an engineering manager these days.

I'm pretty over it, but make too much money to easily try something new. About to get into a new rule on a new project in what is probably my last attempt to make this work. If it doesn't, I'll probably look forward something else like writing to be my fulfillment and just put my time in at the office.

This morning I'm sitting in a warehouse. I'd rather be out standing in my field, but I'll do that this afternoon when the wind dies down.

Is it that time of year again when y'all overthink about everything? I thought I had too much time on my hand.

Went to school wanting to be a doctor. Realized pretty quick I wasn't a fan of school. Had no idea what I wanted to do after that but I sell industrial electrical equipment for a living now after being in sports radio for several years. Random I know. Current job is fine. Not the most exciting thing in the world but I work for a good company and do well enough for myself.

I've always had an itch to be a cop. Don't think I would ever do it but it's always interested me.

Grew up in the car business. Dad owned an Oldsmobile dealership. My wife and I owned a Hallmark store for 15 years. Got out of retail and dabbled on various service industries before getting my nursing degree. I really love what I do, but, from the time I was 10 all I wanted to do was fly.
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But, it's still on the list.

Retired CPA (most of my career I owned my own practice) and if I was starting my career over I would definitely go in a different direction. I never really liked what I did, less so as time went on, but the income was very good and with three kids (I was 32 when the first one was born) it didn't seem feasible to make a career change.

Not sure what I would do. I got interested in archaeology when visiting a place where they are still finding the remains of Marines killed in WWII, but not sure I could do that all the time. Working in a national park would suit me, but doubt the pay would be what I would have needed.

The thing is, when thinking about most careers, you really don't know what it is like unless you work in that field for awhile. If you have a family member or family friend, you can get a decent idea. Of course, you can ask those who have worked in that field, but who knows if that will dovetail with your expectations. With as many clients as I have had, a lot of the younger ones (kids or grandkids of clients) would visit with me prior to choosing a major. My advice was to interview those working in various fields that they thought might interest them and to always ask what the three best things were about the job and then ask what the three worst things about it were.

I'm a fundraiser, and a really good one. I enjoy it as long as I have what I need to do my job and don't have to fight bureaucracy. Toward the end of my last org, that's all I was doing. So I left.

I'd rather be burning down the government so that it can be rebuilt.

Pretty good, 3 sport athlete in HS. Received a small scholarship to play baseball at a small school. I played barely enough to get my uniform dirty. Started coaching in 1982. Head baseball, varsity football, offensive coordinator. Eventually Interviewed for head football jobs, but never got one. I took a golf coaching gig in '98 to mull my options. I will retire at the end of this year with 40 years of HS coaching experience. Since 2005, I have not had teach a class- of any kind. Mostly giving golf lessons to Middle Schoolers in an Indoor Golf Building. Starting in June, I will work 3 days a week in a high end golf store - giving lessons, Trackman fittings, etc. I'm the luckiest guy in the world.

In Sales, but only recently and love it. Just don't have the relationships yet so people always think I'm trying to hoodwink them so trying to stay the course, definitely miss the money I was making, but hated job. Lost about 35% in income in 1st year, which I expected a drop, but can't do that this year.

If I could go back I would've been a coach, I volunteer pretty significant time to it and love every second of it.

As someone posted I would love to get into Battlefield archaeology. Love history and trying to decipher the past. Wouldn't mind teaching history.

I work in aviation on the flying and biz side. It's what 5 year old me wanted to do, except I'm not flying F-14s off the deck of Carl Vinson.

I think being an ag pilot would be fun, or learning to fly helicopters to run some hog hunts, or maybe run someting like the DriveTanks guys at Ox Ranch do.

I'm an entrepreneur. I don't think I'll ever give it up.

Right now I own a manufacturing company but I have some other ideas I'd like to pursue. I have this media company idea I can't let go of so that might be next.

I'm a veterinarian and I love what I do as much or more than I did when I graduated in 1988. But I have changed repeatedly over the years. I went from being an employee in a small animal practice to owning my own to being a partner to emergency clinic work and am now doing mobile surgery, traveling to clinics in my area doing mainly orthopedic surgeries. That said, I have always thought it would be fun to go back and try other things. Human medicine, writing, and archaeology are some of the things I have thought would be fun.

I'm an ENT who is also Board Certified in Sleep. The OP poses an interesting question. I would love to be a safari guide on a private game ranch in South Africa. I've been twice and it's such an awesome experience. Plus the guides are really knowledgeable as they have to know about botany, zoology, geology, history, and even astronomy (for night game drives). And they get to meet people from all around the world and work outdoors among stunning nature and wildlife. Maybe in my next life.

I wanted to be one of the investigators like on CSI or Criminal Minds. However, I think I would have had to started with a Criminal Justice degree which A&M did not offer and I did not want to go to Sam Houston.
