I went to A&M in the mid-90s. While in my apartment, I'd just turn MIX 104.7 on and just have that playing. I remember almost all the songs of that time.
I lost touch with pop music around 2003 and then got back to listening in 2010. Still good music.

I decided I had lost touch again so I turned on the radio of a channel with current hits and I could barely connect with it. Just rap and crap. Nothing memorable like the mid-90s (or earlier).

Probably one reason is I am getting older but has music today really gotten so bad?

Pop music is god awful nowadays. Go back & look at the billboard top 100 in the mid 80s… there is no comparison.

Yeah mid 80s were great I remember Grammys 86 very well.

I just cannot listen to the nonsense that makes for a top 10 on BB these days.

We are currently in the 70s again.
Everything is dance music. No substance, just a catchy beat and hook.
I hope we are due for another resurgence of rock like the 80s and 90s.

There's good stuff out there, but you have to search it out because it isn't what's on the charts. I don't listen to much pop, but this album was release earlier this year and is pretty dang good, IMO (sorry, can't embed, maybe because it's a playlist?).

Went to Sedona, AZ over Thanksgiving. Listened to a lot of country music in the car.
Here where I live, we don't get to hear it, so it took me back to my Coll Stn days.

There was certainly dance music in the 70's, but there has never been a decade so stacked with awesome music in all genres. Rock, R&B & Country were all at their best. Pop was great was well (though matched at least through the 80's)

There's good music being made. It doesn't get top 40/100 type air play because it almost never gets discovered and it isn't pushed and marketed by labels that still drive the industry. They produce and churn out the crap you do get by contract like a vast repetitive engine, the same sounding stuff for a decade now with slight variations or a slow evolution to adopt just enough of "the next thing" to stay relevant.

When 10 people are writing one song and 5 are producing it and there's a team of engineers and it is precisely targeted at certain market demographics and even matched with product releases, advertising, or movie releases, you are getting fed pellets like a conditioned rat at a feeder. Why eat them?
