My Czech wife practically enraged her family by forbidding the Grand March at our reception but it was the best decision we've ever made.

I think the grand March is a neat tradition that gets everyone involved and only upsets the fuddy duddies

Played wedding receptions for over 10 years. We played everything from 40s big band to 90s rock and I've never heard of this cha-cha slide thing.

Grand March is a parade dance that happens at a lot of Polish, German, Czech weddings. Bride and Groom link arm in arm, followed by the wedding party and guests, and they march around the dancehall. At the end the couple is in the middle of the dancefloor surrounded by the wedding party and guests for the first dance. The band usually plays a medley of of polkas while this is happening (Under he Double Eagle being very popular)


It is pretty fun in a tradition sort of way. I went to a big Polish Catholic wedding in St. Hedwig years ago, and the Grand March got so big we had to circle through the parking lot.

It's a beatdown when you go to multiple weddings a year and gotta do the thing over and over. I'm sure it'll be fun when I'm older but I just finished the stretch of my college buddies and family members and inlaws all getting married and I'm done
