Currency still says good for all debts private and public.

In principle I absolutely agree with you. The trend is concerning.

However I can see it's going to be hard to selectively apply rules when we have a multitude of companies who either only operate in an online environment or extremely small self employed people who only take certain kinds of payments (ie do not carry around large sums of cash for change). In essence it would be easy to have unintended consequences if it's applied broadly without consideration for nuances like that.

If you are a biz owner it's great ( bars). Don't have to worry about robberies

There actually are several blue states that do have a law/statute saying you must accept cash. Guess you could move to one of those states?

Had that argument with corps uniform shop 20 years ago.

Fing Scary right there…my dad told me you want to pay your taxes just not the other persons taxes…I do not need the government in every transaction of life I have..

I never carry cash….if I lose/get stolen my wallet it's much easier to just call the bank and cancel cards and mark any charges as fraud instead of losing 100s that I'll never get back.

That and I can tell beggars and folks asking for money guilt free that I got nothing for them, but when it's gas offer to pay their gas……they always say no

If they don't accept cash I don't go there

If we all paid cash instead of by cards, things would be cheaper. Merchants have to pay the credit card companies 2.5-3% fees to process cards. The merchant has to recover that somewhere, and that's by embedding it into their prices.

The banks have everyone on their leash and continue to by offering "enticements" like points so that the consumer is incentivized to pay by card.

I use both cash and cards, depending on what's best for me. I don't care for any business or institution that requires me to use either and thusly takes away my choice. "Talking to you Hopdoddy and Kyle Field"

The Bluebonnet cafe accepts credit cards now. They changed the policy when the Owner passed away.
