The post about the lady jumping off that ship and the comments on it, prompted this.

I have never been on a cruise nor do I have the desire to do so (passionate hate for crowds and waiting in lines)
but have any of you been on a cruise that you'd do again?

Nay. Between being stuck on a boat for days with unpleasant people, sitting at meals with random people (if that kind of cruise), norovirus, bedbugs, Covid, etc, count me out.

They are extremely fun and affordable. Especially if you have a large group going.

I've been on one. It was fine, but I'd rather just go to a resort somewhere.

Went on one for a bachelor party which included a few ex A&M football players. Being stuck on the ship with 4 bachelorette parties made for not a bad time.

Depends on what you want. For me it is strictly a destination vehicle. I am going on an expedition cruise involving hiking, kayak and snorkeling along East Africa. How are going to do Polar regions?

Cruises are fun with big groups of people or multiple families. Didn't enjoy near as much when we went by ourselves. I would never sail on Carnival however. Spirit airlines of cruise ships.

If you have little kids, Disney Cruises are hard to beat. They get a Disney experience and you can relax.

There are a lot worse things I do because I get paid, like go to work every day. I'm sure you would go on a cruise if somebody paid you to.

But no, I'd certainly never pay to go on a cruise and have never been on one.

One of my best life decisions was to go take an ASA lessons as a vacation and just bareboat charter a boat with my friends / family. In Somalian: "I'm the captain now."

I've done 1, the alaskan cruise. I thought it was great, but the destination was a huge part of that.

We are doing Disney this summer for my parents 50th. They paid for it, and got concierge level with wrap around corner plus two adjacent.. so I imagine the concierge perks will make it much more enjoyable.
Private lounge, private outside decks, private character M&G, elevated food & drink menus/room service, cabana reservation on castaway cay, free booze, advanced bookings for excursions, events and meals, private/separate entry and exit areas, to name some of the perks.

clearly you don't realize there are cruises out there that have a fraction of people compared to the huge mega ships, and cost 5 figures a person..

My aunt and uncle blew like $40k on a river cruise last year. All the people you picture on cruises, yeh they aren't on those kind of boats.

Fully familiar with that. I don't want to take a river cruise with a bunch of olds either. My in-laws have done a couple of extremely expensive river cruises. Those have so many old people on them that I'd worry about a left turn across the river Styx

are you gonna be young forever or something?

My aunt and uncle are late 60s, you're right many cruises are geared to older people. And some are geared toward old rich people. They aren't all walmart and golden corral of the sea.

Mixed feelings. We had a decent cruise prior to Covid on a British flagged Pacific Princess cruise, but frankly the best thing on it was the afternoon tea service. The crews tend to be from the Philippines, South Asia, South Africa, Ukraine and Eastern Europe and you do not socialize at all with them. The casino was mostly middle aged and elderly gambling prone folks with high tobacco consumption. Would not do an ocean cruise although a European river cruise sounds interesting.

I've been on one (Royal Caribbean) and didn't care for it. Trashy people, mediocre food and limited time at the stops sucked.

Been on the 4 day Carnival out of Galveston. Yes. The people are trashy, low life drunks, and lol fats. Good staff that will do you right if you don't treat them like crap.

Been on Disney 7 day Caribbean. Way better class of people.
Very awesome for kids, way better than going to the park. Staff will make sure you are whistling yipp-pie-dee-doo-da out your ******* with every encounter. Can't wait to go again.

Been on 3 others on Carnival 5 day and RC 7 days. These have better people on them than the Carnival 4 day because they are more expensive. But they are not Disney.

I like cruising because everything is taken care of and I can sit on my fat ass and not worry about anything. I can get drunk and stay drunk all day. Eat when I want to. And if you treat the staff good and tip well, they will treat you like a king. I haven't been on a cruise that I thought was crowded. All the lines went fast and I never felt like I was waiting long.

I have also done resorts in the Caribbean and Mexico and I don't think there is much difference between cruising and the resorts other than waking up in a different place every day. My goal on vacation is to shut my brain off and let the staff treat me like a king, and relax. Fork out the money and they will do that for you on a cruise.

My cruise reference is outdated but what the hell. Took a Carnival out of Miami after A&M graduation. Great time but at 22 how could it not be? FF 10 years later now married and took a KVIL radio station sponsored cruise out of New Orleans on a grandma ship(500 passengers). Also a great time and made friends along the way since most of the passengers were from DFW.

Would I cruise now? No cuz I'm old, yell at clouds and people are idiots so I don't care to be stuck on a boat with them for any length of time.

We went on a number of Carnival cruises and on one Royal Caribbean. The plusses are getting to see two or three places in a week, and if they aren't the safest countries to be in, you are with a group and back on the ship before night. Have to watch what you eat because it is a buffet-cation. Seeing a few shows are nice.
On the ship I liked RC much better than Carnival. Quite a bit nicer, and calmer.
Myself, I don't like being out in the sun for hours at a time. After a few cruises, I found that lower covered deck(3rd or 4th floor) they all have is nice. Its covered, I pick whichever side is away from the sun, nice breeze, cooler, hardly anyone there. Yup i'm older. Probably won't go on another cruise anytime soon though.
Stay Hydrated, bring Gatorade if they let you. 7 days in the row in a high humidity area can have a cumulative effect.

We went on a Holland America cruise to Canada in 2018. We were part of a group of about 150. It was our first (and only, so far) cruise experience. The size of the ship wasn't overwhelming (about 2500 capacity), it was not the kind of cruise that appeals to the Carnival cruise crowd, we enjoyed the excursions, and the food was great. The most relaxing vacation I've ever had. Most cruises don't appeal to me, but we really liked that one. Under the right circumstances, I'd go on another cruise.
