When that was filmed during WW II, there was a shortage of French speaking actors in Hollywood. They called in extras from the exile community to sing this song. Keep in mind at the time of filming, these people's country had been overrun by the Nazis.

It was filmed in one take as so much emotion was let loose it was just perfect. Watch the guys in the background singing - you can see tears, arms pumping up and down. This scene was awesome.
