Remember in May of last year, the story of finding the remains of 200+ Indian children buried on the grounds of a Catholic school from the 1800s in Canada?

The resulting firestorm had the Pope issuing apologies and 68 Churches in Canada were burned.

For a reminder here is an article from CNN.

Well, not a single body has actually been found.

The story is false.

This was supposed To go in F16. Can an administrator move this to the politics board?

*I accidentally flagged your post wrong.

But I'm glad you posted it here because I wouldn't have seen it on the other board.

Indian Pope is best Pope.

Plus, his hat is pointy like the Taj Mahal.

This is an incredible example of the kind of doublespeak you get from the likes of CNN.

The story is false and we know this because zero bodies have been dug up. The reputation of America's socialist hat is restored, hooray.

Footnote: No actual digging has taken place.

An actual journalist might venture to ask the question why no digging has been done. Imagine a career as a scientist where you get paid to propose false hypotheses and then declare them physical laws because they haven't ever been disproved. Footnote: no actual experiments were performed.

I don't know if the bodies exist or not. But neither does anyone else. The Catholic Church and a government were involved, I give it even odds.

Yes, I understand that no actual digging has taken place; however, if you read the entire article (admitted, it's long), you'll also see that based on records from the time, there is no reason to even expect there to be dead bodies buried there.

The original report was 100% speculation based upon an anthropologist's interpretation of what something "could" be, which was then reported by CNN and countless other "news" organizations that "remains have been found"; when they most definitely had not.

The "lie" was that "remains have been found" when they have not.

I did not see a single report from Last Spring/Summer that indicated that this was not proven and was just a "possibility".

It is journalistic malpractice.

So where did the notion come from that there were bodies there?

Oral tradition that spurred an anthropologist to do a ground penetrating radar survey. Anthropologist then wrote up her results in a manner that supported her purpose for the survey rather than any hard results. Then the media did media things.

3 big fails:
1. Reporting facts that you feel to be.
2. Reporting those feelings as facts in 'journalistic' publications.
3. Reporting that the bodies haven't actually been found when they haven't been looked for.

Why are there stories about kids dieing in these schools? Maybe some one should actually look, with a shovel.

I think this is just the same assertion that started this, repeated bigger and louder.
