Posting here brings me comfort sometimes when I'm feeling down, sad, or anxious. I'm not as involved as I once was, but have many friends here.

And tonight some friends of ours need your well wishes. Their little one fell into a pool the other night and took an hour of CPR to find a pulse. He's in the hospital now fighting for his little life.

As a dad of 3, this is easily one of my greatest absolute terrors in life.

my worst nightmare and why i refuse to get a pool and why i was always OCD when our kids were around pools before they were strong swimmers.

Wife and kids want a pool at the new house and I'm always terrified of this happening. However I've also has 4 blood clots in my life, 2 in my lungs more than 20 years ago and doctors are incredible at negotiating that terrain. My whole family's prayers are on the kid.

Prayers to that family. I've lost way too many patients to drowning and a few of my most traumatic PICU cases in training were drowning deaths.

I hope this boy gets his miracle but the odds are poor based on the information presented.

Drownings are a huge pet peeve of mine. The pictured puddle jumper is a MAJOR cause of drowning in preschool kids because they believe they know how to swim by using them. Nearly every day during a 3-6 year well check I ask the kid if they know how to swim and they insist they do while the parents are saying nope.

I think swimming should be taught in kindergarten. It is a serious issue with poor rural kids whose parents never learned to swim and they don't have access to pools.
