The Princeton doesn't have a Master volume does it? It will get very loud
Are you going to be gigging with it?

No

Just playing at home for my own amusement. I've already decided I like the tone of the Princeton better and can afford the Princeton. I just haven't decided if I like the tone $200~$400 better than the Blues Jr.

Playing thru an ash Strat with Fat 50s.

Neither, go for a Bassbreaker

I don't have either, but the Princeton does sound amazing. I would probably get the Sweetwater exclusive one with the 12" speaker.

Played thru a Bassbreaker, and while it was good (really good, actually), it just wasn't quite "it".

shakes isnt wrong here.....for home practice/fun I'd get a modeling amp of some kind. These days they are really great sounding and more practical.

IMO you're not doing any justice playing an amp like that on a low volume. They are made to played at a louder volume so that the tubes can warm up and you get that crunch sound.

Princeton. Easy choice.

My initial reaction was the Princeton.

However, your Strat set-up my have some synergies with the Blues Jr.

Go with the Princeton.

To me its a few 6L6's a handful of 12AX7's a couple transformers bunch of passives and a gizmo or two like a spring reverb. But my friend from the seventies said the answer was always a mesa boogie, so for him that is what i recommend

Went with the Princeton. I believe I decided correctly.

I think that I would have gone with the Princeton as well, but I don't think there was a wrong choice here either way.

We've been over this. A 97er cannot decide correctly without guidance from an elder.

Gotta try them out and buy the one that makes you happiest

Not a huge fan of blues Jr. I'd rather do a modeling amp or VST for home practice and get the best 18-50W amp you can afford for playing in bands. Personally I like the hot rod deluxe for fender and the new tone 18W from Marshal for rock tones, forgot the model no.

I went with the '68 Reissue (12 W). I'm far enough in the sticks that I can set it at 5, which gives some breakup without pissing off neighbors and really like the low volume cleans. And a distortion pedal gets plenty of crunch at low volumes.

Admirable an old man like you picks up the guitar this late in life
Congrats on the amp choice
I've been playing for over 30 years
There are excellent vids on YouTube
You will be itching to buy pedals - they avg $60-$100 ea.
I have the Mustang Fender amp I recommend earlier
If you would have listened, you would not have to buy any pedals
The amp includes a looper, makes things fun and challenging

Enjoy your blisters !

I've got a wah and a Pugilist distortion. Will probably add a TS or similar and a delay.

What I'm wanting from an amp is just good, simple tone and some reverb. And something that'll hold its resale if I ever decide to get something else.

Prior to this, I had a Vibro Champ XD. I wasn't bad, but didn't inspire me to play. Traded it in on a Bugera V22, which was better, but too much amp. Pretty happy with the tones from the Princeton.

Now I want to get a Tele as well, but that'll probably have to wait until next year.

I've been trying to learn off and on for a decade or so, but life and other hobbies keeps getting in the way, so I haven't progressed as much as I'd have liked. And I've sometimes gone a year or more without picking a guitar up, some of it being hearing something I liked and knowing I'm never going to squeeze that tone out of my equipment (if I'd known about the Mustangs several years ago, my attitude might have been different; I've tried out some Behringer and Line 6 amps and decided I didn't care for modeling amps).

After getting this one home, hitting a few chords and a simple riff or two, and thinking, "This is what I've wanted it to sound like", I expect I'll be more inspired to practice regularly.

Oh, and how's that thing sound?

I haven't owned many amps
My previous was a 25W Peavy
Covid has given me time to hone some chops
With that being said I was not a very good player
My friends and family said I've much improved -lol
Says a lot about practice

I can't imagine owning a better amp (for the $$) than my 100W mustang modulating

During the freeze I said F&%# this
Set up in the garage and was cranking "Red House", "Still Got the Blues" and some SRV - had it on 5 and I made our community FB page
People were driving by and waving

My wife said to Stop - I said ""Why - get back and go watch your Netflix"

Good times!

Nice.

I'll have to check out a Mustang some time.

I can't play for **** yet, so I have to settle for the ego boost of actually having the means to purchase the gear the 20-something Guitar Center hero is shredding on.
