That gave me chuckle, then I realized NASA probably used the metric system to get to the moon.
Having worked with a lot of old code, much of which was originally written in the 60s and 70s, I'm skeptical that metric was used. None of the code I worked with used metric.
The Googles says it was used for calculations, but Imperial was the language of the pilots, so they used Imperial for their understanding where applicable.
do you really trust Big Tech to tell you the truth? they have a history of downplaying America's greatness. it's all part of their leftist Deep State plot to turn the US into another failed Socialist state

Do you folks see what's going on now?

If you want to cover up the truth, have the truth delievered by someone who is not to be taken seriously.

I didn't realize the metric system was so political. I mean it's so easy to grab a 11mm socket, realize it's too small, and then think, "Next one up is 12mm. I'll try that one!"

Unfortunately I'm in single dad mode for a night and I can't even remember how to solve this problem the old fashioned way much less with common core. Anyone able to walk me through the steps (common core) so I can explain it to my 5th grader who waited til 840 pm to tell me he doesn't understand it? Help appreciated.

Me in highschool...

I know that if you flop that other triangle over that is half of the Rectangle...

So 20X12 = 240 half of 240 =120

Answer for #1 is 120, got that in about 2 seconds....

How many questions on the test, 20. OK, yea lets just skip #2, we will come back. I got 5 points to give...

The metric system is for people who are not smart enough to figure out fractions.

b) is unsolvable

The base is not 18. You need the total height of the rectangle to solve for the hypotenuse

Clearly, you don't actual use metric wrenches often.

Otherwise, you would have started with the 10mm.

The base is not 18. You need the total height of the rectangle to solve for the hypotenuse

"Height of an obtuse triangle" <--- enter this into your favorite search engine.

ETA: A hypotenuse is a characteristic of a right triangle.
TexasRebel

Not only that, but you can eliminate the need for the height (h) of the rectangle.

Start with the area of the rectangle (bh)
Subtract half (bh/2)

Now from the other half (bh/2) subtract the area of the unshaded triangle that doesn't include the diagonal (b(h-4)/2).

(bh/2) - (b(h-4)/2) =
(bh - bh + 4b) / 2 =
4b/2 =
2b
