NOTHING!!!!!! Go into the town of West and stop at the Village Bakery, the oldest bakery in Texas. They are much better than Czech slop and cheaper.
And Gerik's is better as well. That's where you see all the old Czech people, sitting around drinking coffee.

They used to have a clear, gallon size jar at the counter with eggs in it. I ignored it for years, then out of curiosity one day ordered one. Pickled, not bad. They've been gone a long time now.

What if you crock pot the sausages in grape jelly and bbq sauce before you make the pastry out of it? Does that make it a kolache or a klobasnek? Or would that qualify as Czech fusion cuisine?

Village Bakery has been closed indefinitely for over a year. The owner died without a will.

Better be careful... staff was handing out bans on the Aggieland board for pointing out the difference between a kolache and a klobasnek

Kolache is fruit filling or cream cheese
Klobasnek is any type of meat or pork

The thing is, no one had to do it because we don't care one way or the other. It's a widget. It represents money being taken from someone else's wallet and put into mine. Call it whatever you want.

While I agree with the definitions, "kolache" has come to mean all Czech pastries. Words can change meaning over time - languages are not static.

Some of us are old enough to remember when the big thrill on the drive down was to stop in West and go to the Village Bakery for actual kolaches. Then it got so popular that someone started Czech Stop on the interstate, started selling sauces rolls, and the whole idea that a sausage roll is a kolache was spread across Texas.

I knew she had died, but didn't realize that she died intestate (what a mess).

Village had the best kolaches in town. Every time I was in West, I would eat lunch at the Czech-American Restaurant, and then pick up some kolaches there on the way out of town.

Good times.
