Any hobbies/skill to teach kids while they're young?

Like some of you, work has been up and down for me, and I find myself with the kids a lot more.

I got a cheap plastic ramp, a small skateboard and helmet, and my young one has been having a lot of fun picking up skateboarding. Pretty amazing how they bounce off the ground after a fall and learn fast. Probably the few pure moments of joy I get to enjoy these days if I'm being honest.

So any suggestions on what to teach kids while they're young and light and can pick up things fast?

How to skip rocks.

Yes how to change a tire or jump start the car is very important but let them enjoy doing absolutely nothing as well.

Skipping rocks has a very calming effect.

And one that seems shocking to me - how to do a cartwheel. You'd be amazed how many kids don't know how to do this and can't believe that my old ass can. I guess it's one of those things that if you learn when you're young, you can keep doing it but if you're older, it's daunting/frightening.

Obviously depends on the age, but basic home improvement. I'm always shocked by the number of people who are looking to pay someone to do simple tasks such as change a light bulb or smoke detector, replace a door handle, faucet replacement, etc. My common response (that I say in my own mind) is that some people just shouldn't be homeowners...

I've taught my 8 and 4 year old the difference between Communism, Socialism, Fascism and Capitalism.

After they identify each, I give them examples of each and politicians and their beliefs and what they might identify with.


Then when we are all done I ask them what never works... the answer is Communism, Socialism and Fascism.

We do this every night and I act like a college professor sometimes and extol the virtues of Utopia Socialism and challenge the 8 year old to shoot holes through it. He does a great job.

Under capitalism, man exploits man. Under communism, it's just the opposite.
