How big are the girls cans?

A girl with 3 cans. The math checks out.

You asked how many boys & girls.

As long as the average donation rate is 3 for both genders, the proper mathematical answer is the subset of all positive integer couples that sum to be 25.

1 and 24 works.
10 and 15 works.
12 and 13 works.
20 and 5 works.
11 and 14.

9 and 16,

3 and 22.

you sir, are correct...

When I got math problems similar to OP's, my answer was always two words. Who Cares?

Verbatim
"There are a total 25 students in the class. On average, each boy and each girl brought in 3 cans a piece. If the class brought in a total of 75 cans of food, how many boys and how many girls are in the class?"
Correct answer is 10 boys and 15 girls. The girls brought 5 cans each and the boys none. Have to factor in who'll actually bring cans for the food drive.
