Humbled to have to ask but please offer up a solution so I can impress my kiddo as I check their math:

25 students (boys and girls) bring a total of 75 cans for a food drive. The average donation for each boy and each girl was 3 cans. How many boys & girls are in the class? For the life of me I can't get the answer. Thanks

75/(X+Y)=3
75=3(X+Y)
X+Y=25

X can be any number 0-25 as can Y as long a sum equals 25. Unless the problem has a relation between X and Y there are 26 possible options.

The only woke answer is less than or equal to 25. We don't know how many identify as non-binary.

You get half credit regardless because your answer cannot possibly take into account sufficient uncertainty of gender complexity. A new class will have emerged by the time your answer is submitted.

My favorite thread ever on this site. So random. So unexpected, And he knew his audience so well. Those photos would just show up with math answers or the Tommy Lee Jones looking at the newspaper pose or the white socks with dress shoes and business attire. The gun on the floor in the background. The list of posters who were "ingredients" in whatever he was cooking.

3 cans * 12.5 pupils =37.5
37.5 + 37.5 = 75 --> CORRECT
