2008. Afghanistan.

Would not mind knowing the location of the sum***** who did it.

My Dad was a construction superintendent and the company he worked for was putting an 8 story addition on a hospital. In the summers, I would work doing "kid jobs" for a little spending money. For this one, I operated the external material hoist which is essentially a stand-up caged external elevator powered by a gas engine. This is how materials were transported between floors. Controls were only at the engine so it was a real job to be there when needed.

So, outside, hard-hat on next to the hoist just in case someone needed me to operate it. They had poured the seventh floor two days before and were wrecking the wood forms off the concrete and had one form stuck. Now, my Dad was the hardest working man I ever knew and he would not stand for laziness or delays, so he grabbed a pry bar yelling at the workers to move and watch how it is done. So, that 5' x 8', 3/4" plywood form broke loose and fell seven floors and hit me in the head. Lucky I had my hard-hat on otherwise it would have killed me. Also, lucky it didn't catch me in the neck as it flopped down. I woke up with a, uh, foreign worker, asking me if I was ok. Don't know how long I was out.

Upon seeing what happened, Dad rushed down to see me awake, gave me 50 cents and said, "Go get a Coke and get back to work." Note, we were at a WORKING HOSPITAL. Years later, I find out I have back issues due to vertebrae out of alignment. Docs say it was probably due to this impact.
