Neighborhood next to mine. We used to see this guy around Grapevine, mainly at the Rec. Center and local parks. Article didn't mention that he is high functioning mentally and physically handicapped.

Out on bail for the third time awaiting trial. We still see him wandering or riding his bike around Grapevine. He actually lives with his grandparents who are responsible for bailing him out.

In old our neighborhood, there was a guy on the registry who lived one road over. He had the penchant for flashing 16 year old girls. He had been caught multiple times over several years.

We bought our current home from a guy who placed the house on the market about the time he was indicted for the sexual assault of two 14 year old girls. He moved to one town over. The dude was in his fifties when the offenses occurred. He was fairly well off and we live in a large county so he was able to drag out the case for many years. Unfortunately, he died prior to trial.

After we purchased the house, the dude's wife told us that they had placed their favorite Bible verses in the walls of the home while it was being constructed. Awesome! Apparently, they were also prominent in their church.

What was interesting is that no one in the neighborhood knew about the indictment and the couple was very popular in our small neighborhood. I only discovered the indictment because I researched public databases about them to see if there were any liens, bankruptcies, ect to help me in negotiating a sales price.

After we purchased the house and moved-in, several people in the neighborhood asked if we kept in touch with the couple, which was strange as we had never met them prior to buying the home. Of the people that inquired about the couple, I did mention the indictment to those with children. Needless to say, they were shocked.

I still occasionally see the wife visiting a friend in the neighborhood.

Lived in Round Rock right after graduation. Our next door neighbors were a mother, her 2 daughters, and her husband (stepfather to the girls). The mother was always very friendly, approachable, neighborly, but her husband always seemed a little off and was weirdly overprotective of the girls. We lived next to them for about 4 years and then moved to a different city for work. We found out several years after moving that the guy had apparently been molesting his step daughters the entire time we lived next door and it was unclear if the mom knew about it or not. I felt sick to my stomach for a long time and 12 years later I still feel kind of guilty for not noticing anything.

I don't care if he is "handicapped". He has shown a pattern of abuse and needs to be executed along with other rapists, pedophiles and molesters.

Check the map. I think it will surprise most how many and how close they are near you.

I think the registry can be helpful, but it seems like having some of these people on a public list is a bit overkill. Not every sex offender is the same. There's a guy here who was convicted of incest with an 18 year old in 1979, there's no record of it being forcible. It looks like he's living in a nursing home now. Is this guy really a threat to the community?

It's much more commons than people who have never looked into it think.

I was on a jury on a child molestation case. It's heart breaking. When we deliberating, almost everyone in the room had either been molested themselves or knew someone very close to them that had been molested.

The room was full of people from different demographics too.

Wow - I look every now and then and there was no one close - now there is a convicted rapist in the neighborhood just north of us - but it's only like four houses from us.

years after my family moved away from the street I grew up on, the across the street neighbor was convicted of child molestation or indecency with a child. Heard the rumor and verified it on the sex offender database.

Wow, so that happened *near* a place you hadn't lived in a decade. Really makes you think.

Very surprised they were on the jury. When I've been called to jury duty and the case involved a child molestation, the judge always asked the jury pool who had been the victim of child molestation, had a kid who was molested, sibling, etc. - they were always excused from the case.

Edit - you are correct how common it was. It was like 40% indicated such.

Honestly, the explanation for this experience probably has more to do with the jury selection skills of the prosecutor vs those of the defense attorney, than the actual prevalence of molestation. Sounds to me like a newbie public defender got schooled by an experienced prosecutor.

Well y'all are making me think back harder, it's been a few years. Maybe none of them had been molested personally, I just remember being shocked as each person shard stories how common it was.

Well, he just got arrested again for taking pictures of little girls in Braums.

How many times does he have to get arrested before they keep him in jail?

Lived down the street from a rumored pedo. Dont think he was ever convicted of anything though. But my mom always told to stay away from him and to tell her if he ever talked to me.

This is kind of a Pandora's box that should be looked at with care and a brain of salt...

Someone on this board has shared a story a couple of times of his dad's friend who was falsely accused of molesting a child, went to prison with a 40 year sentence, and ended up on this list. I think he was a scoutmaster and the kid was a scout who got pissed off because he wouldn't check him off on something. The kid who accused him recanted after several years. He'd made it up and, as an 11 year old kid, had no idea of the gravity of what he did. As he grew older, the full impact and realization of how he'd ruined this man's life over nothing caused him to come clean. It was too late though. The guy lost his house, his job, his reputation, his wife, and his kids, not to mention 6 years (IIRC) in prison as a supposed child molester.

He moved out of state for a fresh start and was getting his record cleared. He was still on the list despite the conviction being overturned. He had a neighbor who found him on the list, decided to be a Billy badass, and beat him to death with a pipe to, "protect his kids." He was horrified when he found out the whole story and that he murdered an innocent man. He rightfully went to prison for it. The original kid ended up killing himself out of guilt.

That's the saddest story I've ever read. Except for the moron neighbor. Hope he rots in a jail cell.

Unknown to us, a friend is now on the list....

He "retired early" from a lucrative pipeline cleaning/"pigging" job, but couldn't collect any money for 5 years....odd. He then starts his own company, and investors pull out "because his old company was bad mouthing him". His house was raided by Feds and the Corpus police a year or so ago, and they took all his computers. It all adds up now....kiddie porn. They quickly put their house on the market and moved into their RV in New Braunfels. No way they were putting that sign in their Corpus yard. He's on the list there and can't even see his own grandkids.

Damn, dude... Where are you at?? Within 3 miles of me, there is 2 L, 1 N. That's it. If you expand to 5 miles, you get quite a few more Ls, a few Ms, and 1 H.

I don't know how they measure the risk level (some of the "Low" risk offenses sound much worse than a few of the "High" risk offenses.

I had the same thought when looking at some of the offense and risk level combination. Going to let the .edu folks explain it a bit better than I can.

https://www.austincc.edu/about-acc/registered-sex-offenders/questions-and-answers has a section specifically concerning the risk level assignment
