I guess I'm technically an owner since I inherited my dad's.

I don't get it. It's an outdated piece of technology that doesn't do anything and is worn purely out of vanity. I love my Apple Watch. It actually does **** besides tell time and it's better at that.

It's beautiful piece of craftsmanship full of history and tradition. Although I only have a couple of tag heuers, the satisfaction of finding a watch, setting money aside then finally being able to go in and purchase it is a great reward. I only plan on buying three more watches in my lifetime including a Daytona to signify an important milestone in my life. I know I sound a bit snobbish but watches and horology have become an interest of mine.

It's a watch that doubles as a watch. If you need your watch to do other stuff than by something else.

Personally, I like mine. Btw, by it used from a reputable person. Give it to your kid when you die. Raise him to appreciate it.

Yep, I rewarded myself with a Rolex back in 2001 when I got the ultimate promotion. I used to wear it all the time.
Now it sits in my gun safe. I plan to pass it on to my son.
But when I retire at the end of this year after doing this line of work for 32 years, I will wear it to celebrate when I go out to dinner.

Any Rolex sport watch on steel has insane demand. Start going to jewelers and ADs and developing relationships.

Are Daytonas the same as things like the GMT II where if you find one retail you just toss the card down and buy it because you can literally flip it for double?

Other place to be looking is places where seller might be in serious need of cash and willing to deal.

Had a one armed black guy try to sell me one on the side of the road. Crown was upside down. I figured it wasn't the real thing since he only wanted $10 for it. Had a briefcase full of them too.

I'd celebrate a milestone with a trip somewhere I had always wanted to go, or always wanted to go back to. I work for myself and don't tend to watch the time much.

I love my Sub and wear it often. Mine is two tone and goes with any combination of jewelry and cufflinks.

I wouldn't be caught dead with some plastic, Chinese Apple square on my wrist. I am not surprised that the people who have to pay for sex (bo) aren't a fan.

Oddly, jewelers haven't been interested yet, and I've gotten nothing but escorts out by the security staff.

If that was a Snorlax or a Charizard, you'd be looking at $15,000 minimum since you have the original box and paperwork. If you had all of the above plus original sales receipt, I would proceed directly to antiques roadshow because valuations would be getting close to $100,000. The nerds on that show would jizz in their pants the second they saw it.

I agree with the above advice to shop and research for a while and buy used. My datejust, and my husband's sub and sea dweller were all bought used from a trusted jeweler. They are all now worth more than we paid for them. We've been looking for a Daytona in stainless, but haven't found one that we're willing to pull the trigger on yet.

Also, if you're not set on a Rolex and just wanting a cool watch, I gave him the Omega Speedmaster (moon watch) for Father's Day and it's nice. The back is clear so you can see all the internals, and of course the historical aspect is fun.

I will say this: I actually did inherit a Day Date and it's special to me, so I don't want anything to happen to it. With that said, even if it meant nothing, I am not a fan of the Jubilee band and probably wouldn't wear it much. The Oyster band/bracelet is awesome, though.

At that price range, besides Patek - I would also put Audemars Piguet, Vacheron Constantin above Rolex. My comment was obviously a bit tongue in cheek as Rolexes are great but the point is that there are many incredible timepieces out there that are heirloom quality without screaming "look at me" to the layman.

Great advice here.

Also, keep your eye on the secondary market for brands less popular than Rolex. I have a friend that picked up an amazing Panerai for a great price because he kept his eyes open and was persistent.

I prefer a good mechanical watch over one w/ a battery. I have an Explorer II that I wear as my everyday watch. It's not flashy or as common as something like Submariner. I had a Day-Date (President) that was given to me, but I sold it as it was gold w/ a diamond bezel - way too flashy for me.
