Outback's target market is your average American consumer and not some of you elitist and refined Aggies (or t-sip wannabes).
Before I got rich, that was my go to place for my steak fix. Even went there for a few of my birthdays.
Now that my palate is thoroughly spoiled, I don't ever go there.

What do you consider to be the gold standard for Steak restaurants?

I think the last time I was there was when I was on a business trip. Ate at the bar. Great for something like that.

I haven't been to one since high school, but I remember that awesome blossom very fondly.
Not sure about now, but the Outback Special used to be $9.99. Their baked potatoes and salad dressing are legit.
The steak is a crapshoot so it's safest to order it extremely rare so it don't come out overcooked.

The Cesar salad is awesome.
Outback is good for a sirloin and baked potato. Sort of like the old Steak N Ale but more casual. I prefer it over TX Roadhouse or Saltgrass for just a reliable decent meal no matter where you are.

Their ribeye is not a ribeye. At least it hasn't been at any of them I've had to go to.
It's not bad...if you like Austrian food.

Here in Australia, our onions are not the bigger than a softball size onions you guys can get at HEB. The onions normally sold in Australia are about baseball size. It would take a couple of them to make a Bloomin' Onion or an Awesome Blossom if we had Chili's.
it has its place. Had a job where there was an Outback 1 mile away so for the occasional awesome blossom and steak lunch it hit the spot. Not for anniversaries, but good for a team lunch where you have to watch expense statement.
