I have recently run into an issue where an account is tied to my TAMU email address. Seeing as how I graduated over 3 years ago, I don't have access to that email. Has anybody ever had this happen and been able to reactivate their TAMU email for a short time to regain access to an account?

Yes, I paid the school thousands of dollars in bribes to become a grad student so that I can access my account.

You can open a Facebook account with a non school email address these days.

Find an incoming freshman and pay them to make their net id the same as your old net id.

Can't do that; NetIDs are tied to UINs. His university email can never be used by anyone other than him.

I guess I have 2 NetIDs then. I was able to change from what it was as a student when I began working.

Maybe because I was a student pre-Compass (SIMS)

You have one and can create a number of aliases (3?). I think employees (that had been students) can create an additional primary NetID as a faculty/staff member that is independent of their student NetID.

Howdy. Email identity @ tamu.edu. As long as no one else has claimed your netId, It can be turned on temporarily. Once a netId is released it is unavailable for about 4 months then released for anyone to claim.

You can only have one netid but up to two additional email aliases. That you can claim at gateway.tamu.edu.

When I retired a few years ago they said my email would stay active for a year. At day 30 it was turned off. I had to fill out a bunch of paperwork and got it turned back on for 24 hours. Good Luck!

If you didn't go to a computer lab to "claim" your email alias at labs.tamu.edu, unix.tamu.edu or acs.tamu.edu, you have no reason to complain about any email-related problem.

In the early days of the internet, I managed to telnet in to my A&M VAX account. There were still several ancient Fortran programs there.

This sounds like a much bigger problem. It requires that you turn your computer off and on again. Also, be sure your computer is plugged in.

At my company it depends on how you retire. We have some that have their email cut off the day they retire by choice. Then there are others that want to keep their email and stay in touch with people that never get rid of it. I have received emails this week from guys that have been retired 1 and 5 years from company email address.

Trust me email identity management office at identity @ TAMU.edu. That's the office that can assist. Email them your old aTm email (netid). If no one has claimed that email the chances of success is very high. Sometimes a simple temporary email forwarding works. If it is Facebook the gmail may need to be temporarily reactivated. Include your phone number.

Can't you just use one of the VT220 terminals in a study lounge to login to your VAX account?

My other degree is from a branch of The University of Texas system and they gave us school email addresses for life. I don't see why A&M can't do the same. It seems weird to have an email address for several years that you use all the time and then have all access taken away when you graduate.

A&M gives you an email and 4 alias emails for life with unlimited google drive storage. Also has directions for exporting emails and files to new account.

Likely get rid of student emails because that makes it easier for current students to prove they are students for discounts using an email address only accessible to students. Not sure on that.

But what if all you need is to check BONFIRE because you forgot what your schedule was? Gotta find a terminal in the commons or somewhere, or can you do it remotely?

I forgot if it was called BONFIRE when I did it, but you can check it remotely with a 3270 terminal emulator. You know, the same one you can use to access the library card catalog so you have a pull list before you even walk in.

People still don't have their own personal domain names yet? I've owned "txbarnes.com" for close to 10 years now. With it, I get 100 free email aliases that I can forward anywhere I live (currently to my gmail address).

It's basically a customized, permanent email address for life.
