My BIL's wife has gone off the hippy deep end, and my wife and MIL might, MIGHT, have her investigated for educational neglect of her children that she "home schools".

I've grown from liking her, to tolerating her, to not wanting to see her.

Nope. I'd rather hang out with my wife's family than my own.

FIL and MIL graduated from LSU. We avoided talking about this years game for about a week. My 7 year old son was asked not to talk about the game anymore around Christmas. They are still botching about the refs. Last year they were *****ing about how bad coach O is. This year, it's the O coordinators fault.

MIL lives 10 minutes away so it's almost like having a live in baby sitter. Pawn the kids off anytime. So I tolerate the eccentricities.
FIL is still married to MIL just lives and work in SC. So when he's in town we go fish and the wife has to let me.

The MIL coming over unannounced all the time and not respecting boundaries or my wife in general as an adult is a big part of why we're in Charleston. They followed us a few years later when OMG grandbabies showed up.

Now the same **** is going on again and I'm thinking about another move.

Have a pretty good relationship with my inlaws. They live about 3 minutes away, so I usually come home about once a week and my FIL has come over and done something (raked, swept up leaves, etc). Dude is retired but can't stand to sit in the house, so he's always doing something. Back when I was dating my wife, he would often go up to the school where she worked and take her truck to get it washed and filled up. He'd also do the same for her sister who worked at a nearby school.

In laws live 500 miles away but are both retired. They visit when they can. We have a good relationship but the reality is that they're old, so when it comes to younger grandchildren, they just aren't as engaged as they used to be.

This stinks and needs to be handled, but the alternative of never speaking to them and your kids never seeing their grandparents is also bad.

Sorry you have to eat corn dogs at Christmas. Maybe your kid loves them. Good luck over next few Christmas breaks. I'm afraid after what is coming they may want to put duck tape over your kids mouth. Tell him next year as he walks in just say granny I promise I won't mention the beat down we put on that school of yours as I'm sure it hurts to be thumped again.

My son is not great at talking ****, but he can be really annoying, especially when he is not given his ADHD meds. But, they were the ones who forgot, when he spent the night, so they had to suffer.

It's amazing how little standards we have for people, yet most can't even get a clue to be decent. Your FIL sounds like the best FIL ever, and all he's doing is knowing boundaries and doing some nice things for his immediate family every once in awhile.

They really are awesome and will do anything if you really needed them to. Those small things he does helps us out a lot. I try to return the favor when they are up at the farm in Iowa (go for a month or so) and I go to their place and keep the yard up.

That happened today - yesterday she 'watched' the 2 year old who decided to draw all over the countertop and dining room walls with red crayon. Fun talk.... don't think she'll be running around over here so much in the near future.

My SIL has always been an issue. She's about 9 years older than my wife....single....easily over 100 lbs overweight...and a hoarder (not the extreme as what has made TV, but still bad).

Worst instance was Xmas Eve one year. She arrives at our house to help with getting things ready for our family get together which was at another location and then leaves to help with her parents. After she left I look down and notice she had left a duffle bag. I asked my wife what that was for and she didn't know.

She calls up SIL, and apparently SIL decided on her own (without checking with either of us) that it was ok to spend the night Xmas eve at our house cause my 4 year old asked her to. Needless to say I was livid.

Told my wife either she can tell her...or I can tell her...that she is not welcome to spend the night at our house Xmas Eve and she should have asked us first. But that if it came from her it'd be less drama than what I have to say. Grabbed her bag when we went to leave and dropped it off at her parents house cause it was either that or she could drive back home.

There's been smaller tag along annoyances that I've looked past....but this was a bad one

I've posted about my in-laws in the past. Long story short, my MIL is a self centered ahole. Step-FIL is essentially MIL with a peen. FIL is a good guy but he is getting a little senile and can be a little annoying to be around at times. Luckily they are all 2+ hrs away and do not visit often.

And how...
  • She's 'just an old woman'... she's only 60 FFS, I have cousins older than her
  • 'What, where?' He didn't do it.

She should have known better. However, you seem to have made an awfully big deal of it. If it's just you your, wife, and your four-year-old daughter I don't see why it was such a big deal and your daughter would probably have loved having her aunt there.

Not only that, but if she's single she's probably really lonely on Christmas morning. Maybe think of someone other than yourself every once in awhile?

As a father of 3 all 5 and under I can see his point. Waking up Christmas morning with the kids is a special thing, especially when they're young and still believe in Santa. It's now my favorite part of Christmas. Having an uninvited guest there would take some of that away.

Also, considering she cleared it with a 4 year old vs. the parents...

Just spit balling here, but maybe if she wasn't 100 pounds overweight she'd have a guy to spend Christmas morning with. I dunno.

Same thing here. My late SIL was the problem. She was a little older than my wife, 200 pounds overweight, and also a hoarder (she once bragged that someone once broke into her house and left because the would be burglar thought that someone has already hit the house). She was a die hard liberal and "everything" she said was "right", which would infuriate my wife. My wife used to be a Democrat (not my doing for she finally saw the truth) and voted for Trump which resulted in a tirade from her. She did not speak to my wife for six months afterward.

Well, she would always give advice on health and nutrition and the unfortunate part for her was that she did not follow her own advice.

My soon to be sister-in-law is incredibly OCD when it comes to cleaning and also spends way too much money on stupid stuff. We were helping her move one day, and I was told to wash my hands before I touched her $600 fancy linen window curtains.

After we finished moving the curtains to the new place I casually asked her if they were machine washable because I may have dragged them through the mud. She flipped out, predictably.

I waited a few minutes before I told her I was just kidding. I was thrown out of the house. Got out of almost a full day of moving.
