1. Sharing your life's journey with someone you trust and love.

2. Not only do they constantly talk about the journey you are sharing they have to tell you about other couples' journey that you don't give one **** about; and, they can't work a remote to save their lives.

1) Lots of sex.

2) Constant complaints of honey-do lists being ignored. You'd think after 15+ years that she'd have kinda gotten the hint by now.

1. Not having to wade through the minefield that is online dating

2. NEVER having the house to myself (she's a teacher, so we leave at the same time, but she is always home before me)

Dude, your marriage isn't monogamous when you bang 2 sloots at a business conference.

Exactly. I hate the monogamy. That's why I sometimes have to take a little break from it. But 95% of the time, I'm monogamous.

I don't buy what you claim. I think you say this to troll a mostly conservative base who almost all have strong feelings about monogamy. But continue.

1. We were best friends

2. We got divorced.

I highly recommend learning about your attachment style before getting married or serious with someone. Not so much love languages but attachment styles. Those play a much larger role in a relationship than anything else especially if both partners have anxieties and insecurities

How you deal with relationships.

Not exactly the same, but Covey talks about much the same thing in 7 Habits, referring to "centers" as in, what is the center of your life.

Yep. There are 4 attachment styles we can develop as newborns: anxious, avoidant, secure, ambivalent. How we react to adversity and stress will bring out one of these styles. It becomes a subconscious thing for us as adults but absolutely affects how successful we are in the relationships we are in. Knowing this was an absolute game changer for me post-divorce and made me really understand more about my ex.

Dr. Henry Cloud refers to it as bonding style in Changes that Heal

1) Best thing - this sounds corny but it is having someone to share the mundane parts of life with. To celebrate successes and to comfort failures. The single best part of my day is making her giggle after 35 years of marriage. Its like crack cocaine. I can never get enough of it.
2) Worst part - is when she goes out of town.

The best advice I can give people who have never been married is:

Your marriage is going to become boring. You're not always going to be clubbing, traveling, f***ing like you did when you were 24.

Find someone who enjoys doing all that AND the "slow" times when you're doing laundry and watching The Office for the 20th time. Otherwise, you're destined for divorce.

Best - traveling

Worst - sometimes, I just want to be alone (more of an issue with kids)

I failed psych 101. I didn't get into reading about this stuff until my divorce. I was trying to make sense of it all.

1. That we are no longer married.
2. That I spent over a decade of my life with him.

Not completely against marriage, just being married to my ex. Honest answer would be my kids are the best part and the worst was the constant fighting and negativity.

Man I agree with this completely! We rarely do anything exciting anymore with a toddler but laughing at the stupid things our kids do and watching crappy tv shows while making funny comments are some of my favorite times....may seem boring to some but when you marry your best friend, every day is fun!

The worst for me is when I have to deal with my husband in the morning....he is a moody sunuvabich when he wakes up. Takes him about an hour to turn into himself.

#1 is absolutely it, and we've made it to 36 years ourselves. Just knowing that she'll be there when I get home makes a crappy day better. And yes, the best part is making her laugh.

I agree with #2 but I do kinda like the "me" time (not THAT kind, ya pervs) when she travels, but she's never gone more than one, maybe two nights on any trip.
