One of my ex girlfriends from high school has started a crowd funding deal to raise money for adoption of a child. Not sure their circumstances but this seems super tacky to me. They are at least selling shirts instead of just asking for straight cash but I don't think that's much better. I know it's expensive to do if you want a white American baby. I don't mind so much a gofundme or raffle tickets to help raise money for a family the suffered a tragedy but this is a choice. I wouldn't think people would ask for money for IVF and fertility treatments, would they? Am I over thinking this or is this indeed tacky?

Great advise.

If she can't afford it, tell her to adopt an older kid or a kid with special needs. Those adoptions don't cost as much and offer additional assistance. She can also become a foster parent first, save up the money she gets paid doing that, and use that money to adopt. If she's too lazy to do one of those, she doesn't need to be put in charge of another life.

I agree with you and applaud their decision to adopt, and I understand there are tremendous expenses involved and there isn't a payment plan option. I would have a hard enough time asking my parents or grandparents for cash for anything (I wouldn't mind asking for a decent interest loan from them for this since it mutually benefits the family), but to post openly about it on FB is something that I couldn't do. I'd get a night job delivering pizzas or something to raise extra money. That's just me though

She has raised about $1400 so far which is cool I guess. Then she just posted on FB about them taking a big trip for spring break and blowing a bunch of money at a fancy boutique, while still asking for money.
