He's not giving the "Hook 'em" sign; he's only offering the illusion of it. Pastor Osteen has finally gone public with an acknowledgment to the god he actually serves.

I'd say his daddy is spinning in his grave but the old man realized what there was to gained by being a preacher to those with itching ears long before his time on this mortal coil had expired. Long live the gospel of Osteen and their legions of sheep who bleat their praise.

He seems to be progressively turning Chinese.

I love it when people get internet mad over nothing. On another note I can't wait til he goes crazy (and he will) in 5-10 years.

I like him. I don't agree with everything he says, but his constant positive message is a great relief from all the other stuff we hear every day.

His message is a little skewed, but he's prob led more people to Christ through that message so who am I/we to judge?

Except his theology hates the poor, looks nothing like Christianity, and leads to despair. It's a startling mix of Pelagian and Antinomian heresies.

I'll take him over the "YOURE ALL HOARS WHO WILL BURN IN HELL!!!" types any day.

I struggle with this one. On one hand: different strokes for different folks, right?...who am I to tell other people how to worship. The mega church thing isn't my deal, but it is for others so whatever. On the other hand: Joel Osteen dropped out of Oral Roberts (somewhere in the middle of his Radio/TV/Film degree plan) to go to work for the family business. Normally not a big deal, except that the family business was a church. His dad built it from the ground up, but only after earning undergraduate and Master's degrees and then going on to get a Doctorate of Divinity.

It kind of reminds me of Michael Jordan taking a break from the Chicago Bulls to play minor league baseball in the Chicago White Sox organization (both owned by Jerry Reinsdorf) and one reporter at the time said something to the effect of: "It's a good thing Jerry Reinsdorf doesn't own any hospitals because someday MJ might want to be a doctor too."

I understand your sentiment, but if you're a believer, you're instructed to use discernment.

If not, you're going to fill your brain with a lot of confusing/conflicting and messages that are incorrect (ie. not from scripture).

I dont think anyone faults Osteen for his big church, or positive message. Most take issue with spreading a message that isn't scriptural, and saying it is.
