As a person that has been preparing ptax returns for some of the wealthiest people in San Antonio and Austin for 24 years, something has consistently been the the same over all those years. Those who act and talk like they have and make a lot of money more times than not make and have way less. Those who have, usually stay quiet and are unassuming. While those who don't talk big and are loved by the auto leasing industry.

Life is about competition. Why is conversation about money taboo? We should talk about it more, maybe we'd have fewer people with massive debt or insufficient retirement savings.

Or, I think more likely, we'd have even more people running out to finance luxury cars and houses they can't afford to appear like they're keeping up.

There's a difference between openly talking about your own finances and openly talking about personal finance.

I used to have people come to my office regularly to talk about Roth IRAs, HSAs, and other personal finance stuff but you can do so without injecting your own numbers.

Agree on the wife. Mine has somewhat of a clue but not the exact amount.
