It isn't about you. It's about them having a functioning name to get along with society. Don't be stupid or creative and make up new spellings of traditional names. It isn't unique or makes them super special or sets them up for success. It is weeee-tar-ded.

Probably someone that had a grandfather or someone called Dub and liked it, but never bothered to find out why they were called Dub in the first place.

Similar to my dad, who's birth name was J.C. because when they asked my grandmom what his name was, she said "same as his father" who everyone just called J.C., never his full name.
