Some pretty simple rules.

1)if you dont have a "+1" on your invitation, you cant bring a date
2) If you RSVP you better be damn sure you can come or you are costing the host a lot of money in food and drink that will go to waste
3)if the invitation doesnt say "and family" or list your kids names, the kids arent invited.

If you havent been married, I expect a sarcastic response below.

If you have, you know exactly what I am talking about. These are small things to people who dont have a clue, but it makes it hell on the people getting married/planning the wedding.

People are so dumb.

I think the kids one is pretty well understood by our generation. Certainly wasn't true for my parents' generation.

The others about a plus one and RSVP are less well honored. But if you're inviting people to an event where a date will be expected, anyone that is ~ college aged or older ought to be given a plus one.

just make sure you make a huge spectacle of yourselves when you take a moment to manhandle an over-sized piece of wedding cake, and with friends, family, and loved ones patiently waiting for that tender part of the ceremony........stuff it all right down her throat and wipe her face with it.

We talked to a friend before our wedding. Told him he could have a plus one, but it couldnt be his current girlfriend, as we hated her and she hated us, and we preferred for her not to be there.

Neither showed up, no tears were cried over it.
