Not enough snow on the mountain the two or three times I went up there. Ended up going to the tubing park to get our snow fix. We played golf in the snow one time on the muni course, that was fun. Bouncing between WPS and Quarters is fun in the evenings of you get smoked out at the IMG.

So we are thinking about driving to New Mexico for a week around New Years. It sounds like this might not be a good idea. Taos is quite a drive from BCS. Is Angel Fire worth a crap?

You're either 3 weeks late or 49 weeks early. Either way, if you want snow for skiing, Ruidoso really doesn't get "good" snow until mid-late February.

If you are in the area, it's not horrible. It certainly won't be the best ski trip of your life, but you can get out and ski.

If you are in that area, maybe look at Cloudcroft as well.

Just have to keep in mind that southern nm skiing can't be compared to northern nm skiing. If you are a fairly advanced skier, you likely won't enjoy southern nm much; but if you are just a recreational type skier, it's not bad.
Dude, Cloudcroft has only two chairs and 100 ski-able acres. Not a serious destination for anyone other than beginners and locals.

Ski Apache is almost all blue and black (and they're reasonably rated). It's hard to find a green run on that mountain. It's actually not a good mountain for beginners. Google a trail map. Chair #1 is a good way to stay away from the bottom and the beginners. The OP obviously doesn't live in an area where he has regular access to skiing, so this would make a perfectly acceptable day trip for someone in that situation.

Snow report show all runs are open at Ski Apache right now.

Gondola is shut down due to wind, but that's obviously day-to-day.

Santa Fe is the closest drive that is likely to have decent snow by New Years (global warming not withstanding).

Old town is quaint. Only, no lodging on the mountain, makes for a 30 minute drive up the mountain every day not ideal. But considering your circumstances, not a horrible compromise.

Taos and Angelfire are only about 20-30 miles from each other down 64. If you are wanting to go to both, it's fairly easy to do if you have the time. Taos ski is a 20ish minute drive up the mountain from Taos, while Angelfire lifts are basically in the middle of town.

As far as hotel, restaurant, bar, and other options, there isn't much to Angelfire

Well, OP said they are in the area (I assume living in the area), which is why I suggested it
