Last night, a bus carrying the Iraan High School cheerleaders was involved in a horrific fatal accident on I20.

I knew Liz Pope's daughter in high school. Started seeing all of this pop up on facebook. It's so sad.

Apparently an Suv in front of the 18 wheeler slammed on their brakes. 18 wheeler veered to avoid and lost control or went over median and hit the small bus/was hit by the bus.

Quick uplifting update-

Schools from the area will be sending their cheerleaders to the Braves semifinal game in Abilene at Shotwell stadium this Friday. It is the hope of the organizers to pack the stadium full of cheerleaders to support the Braves, as they will not have a cheer squad.

A reporter and photographer working for the New York Times happened to be following the team last week for a story on Texas high school football. They were at a restaurant with the team following the game when the calls started coming in about the accident.

My niece will be making the trip from FS. Such a sad story. I remember that 96 team, tough as nails.

very awesome sentiments and backing coming out of area schools in support of the Braves. Its amazing to see how all these rival schools are coming together in this sad time.

One of our schools is doing the same.

being reported that they are expecting around 400 cheerleaders from Texas and New Mexico to show up. Abilene Chick-fil-a has offered to feed all cheerleaders that show up to support the Braves.

Last I saw, Iraan was winning 7-0 in their game tonight.

They are saying around 700 cheerleaders showed up to the game. Iraan took an alternate route to the game to avoid I-20. This allowed them to pass through several small towns and San Angelo. It appears that in every town and county, local police, sheriffs offices, and fire departments escorted the Braves players, band, cheerleaders, and fans through their respective town/County.

They were greeted along the way with well wishes in the form of signs and communities standing on side walks cheering as they passed through town. Honestly, some of the videos brought tears to my eyes.

It's amazing how these small towns rally behind each other in tragic times. It's a beautiful thing that restores my faith in humanity.
