Some track observation for far this season with several school records.
Some great performances so far this season.
On the men side several NCAA qualifiers in Devin Dixon, Carlton Orange, Triki Tahar, Bryce Deadmon, Jacob Wooten and 4x400m relay. The 4x400m relay team has done exceptional without any of the Kerley brothers and Robert Grant from last year. All four of our athletes were developed right here under Pat Henry. Remember Houston team has 3 transfers from other school on their 4x400m relay team. Just wondering if Jamal Walton will be competing this indoor season. Back in December he split 46.07 running unattached. If he runs then our relay team is unbeatable.
Other 400m runners and 200m Jace Comick can qualify with some improvement over the next two weeks.
The men team have 4 descent high jumpers which I hope can really improve quickly and be a treat.
The men weight throwers (some new to the weight throw) are steadily improving and could be a potential threat if not this year certainly next year
On the women side the 4x400m relay team is a definite qualifier with Brenessa Thompson (200m) and Syaira Richardson (400m) close to qualifying. Some improvement needed from the other 200m and 400m runners to qualify to NCAA. These include Diamond Spaulding, Danyel White( good first run in almost a year), Tierra Robinson, Jaevin Reed, Julia Madubuike and Jarra Owens
The 800m women are struggling so far this season. Hope they can find form with one more meet before SECs. Jazmine Fray only 2.09 and Sammy Watson only 2.06. Both are no way near qualifying for NCAA. This also impacts our distance medley relay to qualify for NCAA.
The long and triple jumpers are still struggling. Just need some more consistency. Lajarvia Brown has probably one legal jump in over a dozen attempts. She fouled her three jumps today. She is definitely capable of breaking the A&M triple jump record. Hope Brown and Ciynamon Stevens and newcomer Acquah can improve and qualify for NCAAs.
There is steady improvement in the 60m Hurdles on the women side. All three ladies have improve their times from over 9.00 seconds to about 8.40. Just need to improve to about 8.20 and lower to be a potential scorer in SECs. Definitely should be good next year.
It seems like Tyra Gittens is hurt and out of the indoor season. Big loss if she is really out. She is a potential scorer in three events long jump, high jump and pentathlon.
Probably need in the future one or two really good 60m runners on both men and women side and a specialist miler/ 1500m
Just want to congratulate the coaches on their continued tremendous job in the overall development of each athletes. While other schools focus on big transfers to have a shot at the championship A&M have always focused on developing their athletes from freshman year. As evident by many less recruited athletes coming to A&M and doing very well
