'Max' effort under pressure

Football historians remember Max McGee as a big-play receiver who scored the first touchdown in a Super Bowl.

They also remembered him as a hell-raising partier, who made as many passes as he caught. He also caught a lot of flak for his late-night activities.

Responding to criticism for his carousing and boozing, McGee once said: “When it’s third-and-10, you can take the milk drinkers and I’ll take the whiskey drinkers every time.
