Aggie Flashback w/ Clif Groce

Quick snippets from Clif Groce interview

* The Aggies did a great job at the Cotton Bowl, a place where Aggies have struggled in the past.

* The win at this year’s Cotton Bowl put Texas A&M back on the National Championship map. During his four years at A&M, the team had great seasons, but could never finish it out.

* The entire team as a whole has put A&M back on top in all areas of the game.

* The running game during The Cotton Bowl was incredible. The Oklahoma coaches could not find a way to stop the ground game. The offense was extremely impressive.

* Coaching high school football has been a dream come true, especially winning the State Championship as running backs coach at Navasota.

The dude was a sr at Consol when I was a freshman! He was varsity and I was on the frehsman football team.

We had f'ing computer science together 1st period. In my mind's eye he still has a flat top like Kid'N' Play (even though they're actually two dudes). Had our squat recod at like, what, 750?! Wow, I'm so ****ing old.

It's a shame he never got that 4A state champs ring as I did in '91 as a sophmore. He gratuated in '91 with Tommy Preston, Mike Urbinic(sp?) and a few othe Div 1 guys. Tommy and Cliff both went to A&M but Cliff was a Golden God at Fullback and poor Tommy transferd to Sam Houston when Corey Pullig took over.

Kicker Kyle Bryant was the last of the Aggie contributers from our 4A dynasty at Consol (4 straight 14 win seasons 5 years undefeated in district). Then those ****ers at Lamar came along and the world went to ****. That '93 State quarterfinals game STILL gets me mad.

I HATE Lamar... and Carthage.

I have been following consol football since Ross Rogers first year at Consol in 1988.
Cliff was a full grown man going against HS kids, I mean absolutely punished defenders.
Did the same thing at A&M.
Glad to see Cliff finally get that state championship ring. He should of had 2 of em in HS, I was in the stands at the Astrodome his junior year when Chapel Hill beat Consol 14-0 in the 1989 4A State finals. I was there the next year at Kyle Field when Austin Westlake upset a banged up Consol squad 24-14 in the state semifinals. Consol went 28-2 combined those 2 years only losing the games mentioned above. I love football, been watching Consol football ever since then. Still think about those 2 teams, can't imagine how often guys like Cliff have had it cross their minds.
Really good guy, again glad he finally got that ring.

I played against him and his QB (Tommy?) when I played for Taylor High School back in 1991. Dude was a beast!

Glad he is doing well!

However 1990 football season was both their last at Consol.
They were not there in 1991

One game away from playing consol my senior year. Remember talking about him the week before, and we screwed it up and lost. Ross Rogers was a great coach and those consol teams were great! I played for Tom Rogers(Ross brother) at blinn. Can't believe they were related

Cliff, Tommy and Curtis Sweed made a pretty dynamite backfield. Still remember that catch Cliff made @ Katy to win that game on the way to that first year's State final.

Glad to see he's still in the game, helping the youngsters get better at the game.

I sat behind Cliff's parents at an away game - probably SMU or TCU. Great folks.
