COLLEGE STATION - All of us at TexAgs are extremely excited to announce that longtime college football writer and former Texas A&M beat reporter Olin Buchanan has agreed to join our team of content producers.

Buchanan covered the Texas A&M Football team for more than a decade, working for both the Bryan-College Station Eagle and the Austin American-Statesman. He has spent the past five years as a national college football writer for the Yahoo!/Rivals network.

Olin's primary responsibility will be to help ramp up our written content across the board. He will serve as our beat writer / columnist for Texas A&M football but he will also provide our subscribers with regular reports on all that is going on around the SEC.

Having lived in Nashville for the past five years, Buchanan has been fully indoctrinated into the Southeastern Conference "way of life" and he will be a tremendous asset in helping familiarize Aggie fans with the SEC.

Buchanan's first order of business is SEC Media Days next week, as he'll join the TexAgs team in Hoover, Alabama to provide you with the most in-depth coverage of Texas A&M and all 14 teams participating in the three-day media extravaganza.

In the meantime, go watch the late '90s comedy "Varsity Blues" and critique Olin's performance as a surly reporter. Or check out the book that he wrote on Aggie Football in 2004 entitled, "Stadium Stories: Texas A&M Aggies."

Olin's introductory post is included below. Please give him a nice "welcome" as he begins his journey with TexAgs!

Message from Olin Buchanan

Bryan-College Station … I barely recognize you. Villa Maria now goes UNDER Finfeather? Who would have thought?

It’s amazing how much things can change in just a few years.

When leaving Texas for Tennessee five years ago, I always knew I’d return to my home state, but never would have guessed I’d be moving from one Southeastern Conference city to another.

Yet, I’m exiting Nashville and re-relocating to College Station, where I lived in the mid-90s when covering Texas A&M sports for the Bryan-College Station Eagle. My wife is eager to relocate, too. All her family is in Texas, including an uncle who is an A&M grad and Class of ‘88. My eight-year-old son is eager, too. I taught him the Aggie War Hymn and he thinks it’s great that he gets to say: “Sounds like hell!”

I’ve had three jobs as a college football writer since leaving College Station in ’95.

First, I worked for the Austin American-Statesman and then at Rivals.com. Now, I’m embarking on an exciting new opportunity with TexAgs.com, which is fast becoming the premier media outlet for all-things A&M.

Similarly, Texas A&M also has had three homes since then. The Aggies were in the Southwest Conference back in the mid-90s, then the Big 12 and now are embarking on an exciting new opportunity in the SEC.

Coincidence? Maybe not.

When I previously lived here the Aggies were routinely winning conference football championships and contending for national titles under R.C. Slocum. That ’93 team was as talented as any in the country and the ’94 squad was undefeated. It may be just a matter of time until they’re doing it again.

Some former Big 12 rivals and many new SEC foes may scoff at that notion. After all, the Aggies were disappointing last season and the SEC has won six straight national championships.

But as I’ve seen on my return here, things can change quickly in College Station.

Awesome.

Very first interview there needs to be a question about Rival's bias.

Olin's a good guy. I worked beside him in many press boxes covering high school sports in the 90s.

The difference in reactions between HERE and OLD RIVALRIES is, well, different!!!

PS: Old Rivalries reactions were just "cleaned and sanitized!" Probably good...

Why should they pay him, then give his info away for free?

I don't know, maybe they could be like a real news organization and sell some advertising.

Second what my pal Sabre said. Except it was the Fran years at media luncheons and the occasional road trip.

This is how I remember it as well. That Austin American Statesman / Rivals pedigree is really impressive.
