Around Aggieland (10/30)
On Monday’s edition of TexAgs Radio, Kay Naegeli took us Around Aggieland and provided updates on all things Texas A&M as football found a win over South Carolina, men's basketball played an exhibition match and volleyball lost on the road.
Football
Despite a slow start that saw them trailing 7-0 after the first quarter, Texas A&M rebounded to defeat South Carolina at Kyle Field, 30-17.
The Aggies will now head to Oxford to take on Lane Kiffin and 11th-ranked Ole Miss at 11 a.m. on ESPN.
Men’s basketball
Before officially starting the 2023-24 season, Texas A&M ventured to Denton for the Compete 4 Cause Classic and lost to former conference rival Texas Tech in an exhibition game, 89-84. Wade Taylor IV dropped a team-high 25 points, and Henry Coleman III added 16 and nine boards.
Volleyball
The Aggies had a tough outing for in Knoxville getting swept by No. 12 Tennessee on Sunday afternoon. Losing their third straight game, the Aggies have now dropped nine consecutive sets and look to regain focus when they return to Reed Arena this Friday to take on Alabama.
Soccer
6-seed Texas A&M begins the single-elimination Southeastern Conference Tournament in Pensacola, Fla. on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. CT against 3-seed South Carolina. With NCAA Tournament aspirations on the line, the Aggies’ rematch with the Gamecocks after falling to them one week ago is a must-win.
Carolyn Calzada, Mia Pante, Adysen Armenta and Margo Matula earned SEC honors as the conference announced its postseason award winners Sunday.
Calzada claimed All-SEC First Team distinction as a defender. Pante was named All-SEC Second Team midfielder for the second consecutive season. Armenta and Matula garnered spots on the SEC All-Freshman Team.
Women’s golf
The Texas A&M women’s golf team is set to compete in the prestigious ninth annual East Lake Cup at the Atlanta Athletic Club Oct. 30 - Nov. 1 with coverage of all three rounds set to be broadcast on the Golf Channel.
