On Wednesday morning, it was announced that Texas A&M Athletics finished No. 24 in the final LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup standings for the 2022-2023 academic year.

Here is the release from Texas A&M Athletics:

CLEVELAND – Texas A&M placed No. 24 overall in the final 2022-23 LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup standings. Texas A&M has now finished in the top 25 of the Directors’ Cup 17 straight times.

“The mission of Texas A&M Athletics is to create opportunities through championship athletics and I’m extremely proud of the hard work by our student-athletes, coaches and staff throughout the 2022-23 school year,” Director of Athletics Ross Bjork said. “It was gratifying to see the women’s tennis and women’s golf teams win SEC Championships, men’s basketball and baseball play in SEC Championship games, and three teams finish in the top five nationally.  While we are constantly pushing for more consistent success at the highest level, seventeen straight years in the top 25 of the LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup is an amazing run of consistency, and I’m certain that greater years are in our future.”

Fourteen of Texas A&M’s 19 NCAA-sponsored athletics programs contributed points to the final standings, including top five efforts by women’s golf (No. 3), women’s outdoor track & field (No. 5) and women’s tennis (No. 5).

At the conference level, the SEC led all Division I conferences with eight institutions in the top-25 – Florida (5th), Tennessee (6th), Georgia (7th), LSU (9th), Alabama (12th), Arkansas (13th), Kentucky (18th) and Texas A&M (24th).

The LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.

The Maroon & White’s year was highlighted by a top-five finish for Gerrod Chadwell & Co. in Women’s Golf.

Pat Henry and women’s outdoor track & field finished fifth overall this summer, as well as Mark Weaver and Texas A&M women’s tennis.

Florida led all SEC institutions, finishing in fifth place overall.

Bill Byrne had us consistently in the Top 5 or Top 10. Considering how much we spend on the athletic program I really wouldn't brag about #24.

This is ****ing pitiful!

"...women's golf (No. 3), women's outdoor track & field (No. 5) and women's tennis (No. 5)."

The ONLY sports that count are the MEN's BIG THREE.

...and we are a joke in all three.

The BEST we've placed is 5th in 2009-2010. We've only been in the top 10 five times out of the 29 years.

Meanwhile Stanford (26), t.u. (2), and NC (1) are the only schools to have placed 1st.

We're even worse than VA, CA, and AZ who have 8 top 10 finishes...let's compare our athletic revenue to theirs:

TAMU - $193,139,619

VA - $161,916,231

CA - $118,212,179

AZ - $124,353,539

Stanford - $133,622,625

Everyone comes to cash checks, coaches included. We are known as the golden parachute University.

What has Woodward done at LSU since he left A&M?

Win. That's what they've done.

Stanford has 36 NCAA sports. They don't have to do great in any of them. They win on sheer number of sports. Most other universities have less than 25 with most being less than 20. Im surprised any one can ever beat them.
