Barry Switzer talks OU football, A&M to the SEC & more

Lubbock, Wichita Falls, Amarillo are closer to Norman than Austin. Abilene is not.

Good interview guys.
Just an incredible record ou has overall and Switzer too.
And to think their program has had very few down years.
A coach that can't continue the process of winning is gone...fast.

Guess Barry did not stop to think that we already travel to Columbia, MO, and that Lawrence, Manhattan, and Ames are as far as Alabama, Tennessee, and Florida. I am sure OU will enjoy their trip to West Virginia, but Lubbock is nearby to offset that. He just spouted the tu and OU line on our move to the SEC, but I really would not have expected anything else. You guys were polite though.

His response to the question regarding Jackie's theory of 16 or even 20 team super conferences was interesting. I think he said something about tu and OU doing whatever they have to to take care of themselves if that happens. I think that about sums up the reason for the resentment they have about our move to the SEC. We are now in a stable conference that will continue even if the move to supers occurs. tu and OU on the other hand are not and are uncertain about their futures. Our move was preemptive for a change, and they are envious.

As a life long Sooner I think I can safely say that most OU fans have absolutely no resentment towards A&M and the decision to move to the SEC.
We're sad to see you go.I can tell you that going to OU games in College Station was a highlight of any season.
We understand the issues you have with UT but we would hope you'd understand why we're so closely tied to Texas.......not the university but the state. We must have a presence down here, pure and simple.

The issue was really with the Big12 as a result of the actions of tu. Even after NU and CU left tu never did see the problem with their actions. tu even tried to leave before we did last year, and when we did not go along with them to the PAC they gave up on that move to keep us from going to the SEC then. The problem is that the Big12 had become unstable as a result of tu. It was obvious that tu would bolt when they decided the time was right. Their expansion of the intended scope of the LHN confirmed their plans did not include stability for the Big12. That is why we left. OU was never a problem for us. Now, however, OU seems bound with tu who is bound by the LHN. I think some among tu and OU are envious of our freedom from that.

Barry also tried to make the point that the best players in Texas always had the option to go play in the SEC because the SEC recruited them. What he failed to note is that they never had the option to play in the SEC and have 6 or 7 games played in Texas with 4 or 5 of those being SEC games. Stoops would probably have given a more objective interview than Switzer, but he is obviously busy.

I posted on the Aggies Only board that quite a bit of his answers amounted to little more than OU (and Big 12) talking points. Basically what fireinthehole is saying.

I appreciate the fact that Gabe and Brandon were being polite with their guest and that's understandable. The adulation of OU he managed to work into his answers wasn't surprising. His assertion that the SEC wouldn't improve our recruiting didn't bother me either because that's just opinion and it will be what it will be. But his statement about parents' diminished ability to see their kids play due to our SEC travel was just false. Letting that go unchallenged (and he seemed to go on about it) struck me as equivalent to letting others control the message for us.

I much prefered for my last memories of him to be when a flock of reporters were following him around Valley Ranch while he was looking for an unlocked door to get into his (former) office.

Great interview Gabe! My first time hearing you, and you could easily replace at least four jackasses I can think of right now among the four sports stations here in Houston, where, by the way... jackasses run amok on sports radio, in case you haven't heard. We need more people like you.

I agree. The Houston sports radio has fallen way down. We have the local media pushing UH that plays in a High School Conference. The 1560 the game has become the LSU station. The other radio jocks can't complete a sentence nor knows what a verb and noun is. Sports journalism has become a shock jock sports I'm afraid.

Good interview and you know Barry really would like the challenge to move OU into the SEC and lace 'em up. He just gave the party line because his check still comes from the Land Thieves. Heck it's his legacy.

BTHO Switzer - he enjoyed getting his brainless thoughts in about our recruiting in the SEC. He's garbage.

Barry ran a crooked program, was caught carrying a gun in an airport, had assistant coaches with binoculars in restrooms at UT practices, etc. Who the devil cares what he thinks now.

I agree, why is **** about that cheater this on the A&M board. Rivalries forum?
