Key notes from Jimmy Wright interview

  • The biggest take away I had on the game at Auburn was our defense is playing very consistent for the last three games. Their stats prove that and it also proves that when you start looking at individual players, it shows their improvement from the spring.

  • Justin Evans led the team again with 12 tackles. Shaan Washington really worked hard in the spring to improve his strength and his quickness, and he led the linebackers with nine tackles. Kingsley Keke led the defensive line with five tackles. Myles Garrett had two sacks and three tackles and had a lot of harassment on the quarterback.

  • The defense is making big plays when they need to. They're really gearing up when a team gets a drive going. They make big plays from thirty yards in. I think the defense has played tremendously well these first three games. We are going to need it to continue against Arkansas.

  • When you talk about Trayveon Williams, he's a home run hitter. He'll light the match and he'll be gone before you can use it. He has those moves when he gets into the secondary that you better be ready for. Not only will he take your jock strap, but he'll get your t-shirt and shoulder pads, too.

  • The thing about going to practice is that you see guys that are really focused and doing things on a consistent basis. I can name you 10 guys that are playing really good offense and defense, and they were the guys playing really good and working hard on the weights in the spring. That work is starting to pay off.

  • When Trevor Knight runs, we move the ball better. All I'm going to say to Trevor is, 'You're playing good. If you drop back to pass and your pass protection looks a little weak and your guys are covered, then take off running. Get the first down.'

  • We were 2-of-15 on third down against Auburn. That's like you and me playing flag football in the backyard. Against UCLA we were 5-of-18. Against Prairie View we were 8-of-16, that is fifty percent. That's our highest. You have to be 65 percent or better if you want to win the SEC West.

  • We were in the redzone seven times and we only scored two times with touchdowns. We kicked five field goals. We have to applaud Jeff Banks and the kickers. LaCamera was 5-of-5.

  • I think this matchup is a big test and I love it when A&M is 3-0. Arkansas is going to be a nail biter. I'm picking A&M to win 28-24 or 31-24. It could even go into overtime.
