Texas A&M Releases Final Fall Camp Depth Chart

August 25, 2016
31,552

Freshman Colton Prater and sophomore Connor Lanfear are listed as starters at guard, while senior Hardreck Walker was listed as a starting defensive tackle on the Texas A&M depth chart, which was released on Thursday.

Prater and Lanfear are new starters on a rebuilt offensive line that will include returning starter Avery Gennesy at left tackle, redshirt freshman Erik McCoy at center and senior Jermaine Eluemunor at right tackle. Until about two weeks ago Eluemunor was at right guard, but he previously played tackle in junior college.

The post-camp depth chart comes just over a week before the Aggies open the season on Sept. 3 against No. 16 UCLA at Kyle Field.

Texas A&M football coach Kevin Sumlin had previously indicated some positions would not have a clear starter. Those positions include running back, tight end, and defensive tackle.

The running back depth chart listed junior James White or junior Keith Ford or freshman Trayveon Williams.

Junior Tanner Schorp or junior Kalvin Cline are listed as possible starters at tight end, though A&M in recent years has rarely started a game with that position on the field.

Quarterback Trevor Knight and receivers Christian Kirk, Ricky Seals-Jones, and Josh Reynolds were obvious starters. Damion Ratley is the fourth starter at receiver, but probably only because Speedy Noil is suspended for the season-opener.

Among the other "ors," defensively, junior Zaycoven Henderson or Kingsley Keke are listed at the other first-team defensive tackle slot alongside Walker, who perhaps surprisingly is listed ahead of sophomore Daylon Mack.

Of course, the starting defensive ends are Myles Garrett and Daeshon Hall.

Sophomore Otaro Alaka is the starter at middle linebacker with senior Shaan Washington on the weak side and sophomore Richard Moore on the strong side.

However, the Aggies are expected to open in a nickel package against UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen. In that case, Donovan Wilson would be at nickel back, likely replacing Moore on the field.

Returning starters Justin Evans and Armani Watts are the safeties. Nick Harvey and Priest Willis, a transfer from UCLA, are listed as the starting cornerbacks.

Daniel LaCamera is the place kicker and Shane Tripucka is listed ahead of Braden Mann at punter.

Shocked at Mack Truck not being First Team... Would assume we will be rotating a lot vs. UCLA.

I'm actually encouraged that Daylon isn't listed the starter and the same goes for KeKe. From all I have heard those are the two most disruptive and what it tells me is that we are going to have a legit 2 deep at DT this year.
Those guys rotate all game long anyway and feel comfortable knowing they are all very competitive.

Still surprise Koda isn't starting, but I wonder if he may be the actual backup at 2 or more positions.

Exactly. This is not an indictment on those guys, but rather edification of A&M having a strong 2 deep along the DT rotation (and along the whole line). Plus we got TD Moton as the 5th guy, who hopefully redshirts, but if he catches on more quickly as the year goes on, he can help us out.

Also, really excited Lanfear broke into the starting lineup. Dude is absolutely massive and should help us in the run game.

Our strongside linebacker is 6-1, 218 pounds

That would be considered small for the Big 12.

Remind me again of Derrick Henry's measurements...

This is year 5.

MLB is 6-4 240 and WLB is 6-3 240. What's your point? Moore played against Henry and Bama last year and was easily our best LB in that game. I don't care what size he is if he can get there and get someone to the ground.

It doesn't matter how good Moore is. Or even how big he is. The only thing that matters is that Saratoga wanted to take a shot at Sumlin, and found a reason to do so. If it wasn't Moore, it would be the offensive lineman, or place kicker, or water cooler color, or something else.

Please remind me, was Dat (our best LB in history) also considered "small"?

The youth starting on the OL is a little concerning to me, from my uneducated point of view using my tiny little mind. But, I'll just enjoy the season and hope for the best.

Roster looks strong but I'm concerned with at least 2 O-line positions starting freshman (LG and C). Backups to those positions are also freshman. The future may be bright but we are certainly young on O-line and in the SEC that is not a good thing. Gig'em

Richard Moore has a chance to be a very good player....I think we finally have the staff in place that can win in the SEC. The coordinators are experienced and battle tested. We are recruiting and developing kids that will move the needle forward. It's not easy to win in this conference. It takes depth and experience. I'm a little concerned and excited about the OL. It is telling the fish are coming in and making an impact.

OK. Football Lesson. In a 4-3 scheme that Chief runs (Basically a 4-2-5) the Sam LB is traditionally the smaller more athletic LB. Why? because with multiple formation teams, this LB can play in space and line up in the box when teams change personnel packages. Although this backer is smaller, this LB is in most instances physically as strong as the larger Mike and Will.

As for the the guys that we have that play SAM they are studs!! Hopes that helps!
