Cedar Hill receiver Camron Buckley adds to Texas A&M's commit train

On Friday, Texas A&M's commitment train kept rolling right along when recent offer Camron Buckley of Cedar Hill wasted no time in joining the fold.

The talented Dallas-area wide receiver recently began hearing from position coach Aaron Moorehead and Aggie offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone and was officially offered on Thursday. Within hours, Buckley's mind was made up.

He was going to catch passes at Kyle Field, in the Southeastern Conference, while wearing maroon and white.

Buckley — who ultimately chose the Aggies over runners-up Ole Miss and Miami — is a wiry, athletic outside receiver who stands better than 6-2. He's currently closing in on 190 pounds and has the type of frame that will soon easily carry north of 205.

While lining up primarily on the outside for Joey McGuire's Longhorn offense, Buckley emerged in 2015 as a true playmaker and bona fide blue-chip prospect. En route to hauling in 31 passes for 430 yards and seven touchdowns while playing opposite OU receiver commit Charleston Rambo, the newest member of A&M's Class of '17 showcased the skill set deemed offer-worthy by the likes of A&M, Ole Miss and The U plus TCU, Auburn, Iowa, Texas, Mississippi State, Arizona State, Tech, Houston, Washington and others.

A tall, rangy and strong target on the perimeter, Buckley is a threat to use his 4.55 speed to get behind the secondary — but I think it's his quickness that causes real problems for opposing corners. He's explosive off the ball and into and out of his breaks, presenting a 'do I or don't I' conundrum for the man charged with locking him down.

Lindsay Caudle, TexAgs Aaron Moorehead (right) now adds Buckley to Roshauud Paul to form the foundation of a receiver haul that may eventually top out at four.
Play too far off, and he'll chew up yards and move the chains via digs and 10-15-yard out routes. Challenge the CHHS pass-catcher and there's a good chance you'll make his highlight reel while giving up an easy TD reception.

Buckley does a very nice job of understanding the advantage of changing his pace while running routes, has better-than-advertised top-end speed and possesses exceptional body control and ball awareness. In fact, I'd say his ability to locate and adjust to the pass and win contested balls might be his biggest strength, making him a dangerous weapon on fade routes deep down the sidelines and (especially) in the red zone.

The more I watch the newest member of Moorehead's stable on tape, the more I think he reminds me of former A&M downfield threat and current CFL standout Derel Walker.

With the Buckley addition, it's safe to assume that the Aggies are now halfway home when it comes to closing out the receiver position. From here, it's safe to assume that the bulk of the attention from the A&M offensive staff will focus on landing a pair of state top-30 talents who are currently leaning towards choosing TAMU.

Stafford speedster Hezekiah Jones and Richmond Foster's CeeDee Lamb would give Moorehead and the Ags are very strong four-man haul and both players are trending toward ending the process prior to their senior seasons, if not earlier. Teams in contention for Jones' pledge include A&M, Notre Dame and Houston, while Lamb seems zeroed in on the Aggies and Oklahoma Sooners.

Again, momentum is on A&M's side for both playmaking wideouts.

The Aggie staff is also working hard on Lancaster's Omar Manning but the big receiver is currently feeling Texas and TCU more than he is A&M.

Buckley's commitment pushes Texas A&M's 2017 total to 17. Remaining needs for the Aggies include two receivers, two linebackers, an entire set of defensive linemen (probably four total) and perhaps one more OL and maybe a second tailback.
