Key quotes from Boomer White interview

“I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a little antsy (about facing TCU). I am excited though. There are a lot of external factors going on in this game, which is fun, but it stinks that I happen to take a big story in this. I wish it were just all about our team. I am excited; it’s a great TCU ball club."

"I still keep in touch with coaches and players over there and friends I have on that team. They aren’t going to be friends come this weekend. We are going to come out to win this – hopefully in two games – and move on. It is going to be an outstanding atmosphere and a lot of fun. I am just hoping to contribute and get us out of here with two wins.”

“I think just sticking with the routine will help harness my emotions. I think it is easier than being at their place. For the most part, we have a packed stadium every game, and this weekend will be no different. It is going to be rowdy, but playing in front of these fans about thirty-something times is good. (I'm) sticking with the routine, going through the same process I have done before every game and just focusing on how I can help my team (without) worrying about who is in the other dugout – doing my best and letting the chips fall (as they may).”

“When I first made the transfer, I never would have thought this is what would be going on two years in a row and that we would end up playing TCU. It makes it a lot of fun. You can’t say that it is worth it yet. We want to come out and win, and that is the only thing on my mind right now."

"We just got a regional win, and I want to get to Omaha. It just happens to be that TCU is in our way."

"It makes for an interesting plot and an interesting storyline, as you all know. I just want to come out, be myself and play as well as I can to help this team.”

“I have an impact on the game somehow, someway. (this time) I’m going to be playing."

"Last year I was sitting in the bleachers in Ft. Worth and at my house in Cape Cod watching (it happen). It was kind of a hopeless feeling wanting to will the Aggies to a super regional win and to Omaha, and I couldn’t do anything about it. This year I am excited. I am playing well personally, and our offense is clicking. I think we are going to play really well. It is exciting that it happens to be TCU. It is going to be an outstanding series.”

“It means everything to me to be playing at A&M. I came here to go win a national championship, to win an SEC Championship. (Texas A&M) has gotten some of those steps done, and this is just one more stepping-stone on the way to Omaha. This is the team I grew up loving, and I get a chance to help them now. It means a whole lot, and we have three games to go get it done. I am excited to help in any way that I can.”

“There are a couple of players on TCU that I am friends with, and our relationship mainly stays together outside of baseball. We don’t really talk about baseball a whole lot. I stay in touch with a couple of coaches over there. It is really personal. They are really great to me and I am great to them. We have an outstanding relationship despite what happened when I left. I have had some people text me, and a couple tweet and do all of that stuff to me. We have just been talking – nothing out of the ordinary. I am excited for them to come to town, and it is going to be a fun series.”

“Micah Ahern was there. I remember when we introduced him as a future member of our team. I am not (that) close to the Aherns (anymore). I think I have reached out to them a couple of times since I have transferred. I still have a ‘Superhero Micah’ bracelet tacked above my light on my door. It ripped a while ago, but I still have it."

"It is devastating to hear what Mrs. Ahern announced the other day. Obviously, he is in a lot of our prayers, and we’re really praying for the Ahern family. Micah has made a tremendous impact on not just TCU, but everyone who has been a part of his story. He has been a part of ours. We wish the best for them, and it was really sad to find out that news.”

“It really has been the best scenario at Texas A&M, so far. I sort of believe that things would have panned out this way for our team and me personally. I just wanted to come to this outstanding university, attend school and play baseball. God willing, I have played well this year and have been able to help this team to where we are now."

"We are not done. This is great, but we really want to get to Omaha. That will really make this journey a lot more worth it if we can get there.”

“My grandparents put A&M on me (when I was growing up). I didn’t really have a school that I cheered for. It happened to become A&M after coming to baseball games and football games. I just fell in love. My love was there through high school, and when I got to TCU there was something still tugging at me. It is something that I have grown up with, loving Texas A&M. Now I am in this situation and have this opportunity to help the baseball team here, and it just means a lot to be able to have an impact.”

“Managing emotions will be the biggest key to beating TCU. We know we can compete and beat anyone in the country. We have proven that week in and week out in the SEC. They are going to come here, play their best and give us everything we want, and we are going to give it right back. So, it will be (about) managing emotions."

"If we can get good strong outings form our starting pitching, we know our offense is going to score runs. Playing good defense, managing the guys on the mound, and letting our offense take over when the big hits come – I think that will really determine the rest of this series.”

“Mark Ecker did this last year. He has got an absolute rocket for an arm. Last year he wasn’t as accurate. He couldn’t spot up like he can this year, and he didn’t really have a changeup that was as dominant as it is now. So to see a guy of his stature – and then you see 95-98 coming out of his arm. Then he can put it wherever he wants, and he can counter that with a changeup and a slider."

"He is just an absolute competitor when he is on the mound. It is kind of the whole package.  When he walks onto the mound, he may not be the most intimidating guy, but you look at his ERA, see the ball come out of his hand and know he is a real force when he is out there.”

“Last year I got some stuff via social media when the super regional was going on. Some people were outstanding and very nice, reaching out to me and wishing me the best of luck. Some people, on the other hand, saw that I was out at TCU, and they no longer wanted me to succeed. It is kind of weird. I have the 12th Man here, and they are the best fans in the world. This is who I am playing for. That is all I’m really thinking about.”

“The ‘We want Boomer’ guy may be my lock screen on my phone, but that is about it.”

“It would be nice to beat TCU to get to Omaha. It isn’t like I have anything against TCU and I am just out to get them. They just happen to be in our way, and it happens to be a great, fun storyline. At that time, that wasn’t the place for me."

"It will be a lot of fun when we can come out and get these two wins. Whatever team happened to come through here was going to (give us) an outstanding series, and we want to give everything we can to get two wins and get to Omaha. It makes it a lot more fun, but we aren’t trying to make too much of it. We are just trying to play our ball.”

“I think it is nice that I have only two or three friends that I really keep in touch with at TCU. It isn’t like those are all of my old teammates and best friends. A lot of those guys are new, so it’s not as personal as you would think with friends over there that I am going up against. It will be weird, considering I wore that jersey for two years. I talk to the third base coach weekly, so it will be weird not being able to talk to him and going up against him. It will be different, but that is just another team in the dugout. I am focused on the guys in our dugout, these fans and our coaches. I'm playing for them, and any way we can get a win is my focus.”

“A good amount of people have asked me about TCU, but probably not as many as y’all may think. I get a lot of stuff on Twitter and social media, but I am sure that will come out as the series progresses.”
