SEC releases 2016 conference football schedule

Many have speculated that in 2016 Kevin Sumlin will have the best team of his time thus far at Texas A&M.

He'll also have one of the most intriguing schedules.

On Thursday the SEC released its 2016 conference football schedule, completing the next-season slate for all fourteen of its teams.

The Ags open with UCLA at Kyle Field on Sept. 3 in what's likely to be one of Week 1's marquee matchups, followed by essentially the polar opposite in a Week 2 visit from Prairie View A&M. Early trips to Auburn and South Carolina sandwich the customary Week 4 tilt with Arkansas in Arlington.

After that, however, is when things get interesting. The Aggies will host Tennessee at Kyle Field on Oct. 8, then receive a bye week before playing Alabama for the second straight year.

Notably, A&M is one of three teams — joining Alabama and Georgia — whose schedule includes three consecutive home games to close the regular season.

Here's the Aggies' schedule in its entirety:
  • Sept. 3: UCLA
  • Sept. 10: PRAIRIE VIEW
  • Sept. 17: at Auburn
  • Sept. 24: Arkansas (Arlington)
  • Oct. 1: at South Carolina
  • Oct. 8: TENNESSEE
  • Oct. 15: open date
  • Oct. 22: at Alabama
  • Oct. 29: NEW MEXICO STATE
  • Nov. 5: at Mississippi State
  • Nov. 12: OLE MISS
  • Nov. 19: TEXAS-SAN ANTONIO
  • Nov. 24 (Thurs.): LSU

There you have it: which road trips to begin planning and, if you're a good friend, which dates to avoid scheduling weddings on.

Very nice having open date after Tennessee and easy non conf games after getting beat up by Bama and Ole Miss.

I think the Ags can finally go 6-0 before the bye week now.

It will be interesting to see if the Thanksgiving showdown with the Swamp Kitties is in the afternoon or in the evening. I love Thanksgiving football in Aggieland, especially in the SEC!!!

Nope. Ole Miss is losing its starters in quite a few areas. treadwell, all 5 o-line, most of its defense. They are gonna have a down year.

Nahhh. He is a top 10 pick. The rest of the OL starters are seniors. They will a few juniors who will leave along with Treadwell. Arkansas has a similar situation. SC is likely in rebuilding mode.

That's a tough schedule. Hopefully Rosen has a sophomore jinx. Auburn will be a much better team. Tennessee is on par with A&M when it comes to age. Bama is Bama. Miss St. Is a question mark without Dak. Most of them will be back though. LSU will be great yet again.

Hopefully the o-line play is much better with another off-season. QB has to be cemented by then. RB's should be much better. WR strong. DL stronger. LB should be healthy with better depth. DB's great.

OC?

OC = Mike Leach after dismissal from Wash St.

Ags average 932 yds/game. Pts. For = 73.2; Pts. Against = 18.

What we now know is that UCLA will be overrated in the preseason and end up with a losing record. And Tenn will be our first loss and better than people predicted in preseason.

Wishful thinking. Leach has things turned around at WSU and he won't be going anywhere anytime soon...
