While seeing perennial powers face off more often is preferable, the two made the most of their opportunity in 2012. With the SEC title on the line, Georgia fell just short of a captivating win and was forced to settle for the Capital One Bowl.
Since those days, Aaron Murray and A.J. McCarron have headed for the NFL. So have the powerful backs behind them. But we still have the two men at the top, and that is more than enough.
In the premier cross-division game of the 2015 SEC season, Nick Saban and Mark Richt go head to head one more time. While there are bragging rights on the line, a rematch in Atlanta is always a possibility with these two teams.

One of them — Alabama — has proven capable of running the gauntlet. Meanwhile, Georgia seems to invent new ways to lose close games and fall just short of its ultimate goals.

Richt's Bulldogs always seem to push the edge of greatness before
falling just short; Bama will provide their 2015 measuring stick.
That could change in the season's fifth week.
The Bulldogs should have SEC wins over Vanderbilt and South Carolina by October and will be full of confidence. Leading that charge will be Nick Chubb, a name that college football fans should get used to — if they aren't already.
The sophomore running back put up over 1,500 yards a year ago, which is impressive in its own right. When you factor in that he did it while backing up Todd Gurley for five games, you begin to get a sense of the impact he brings.
If Georgia is going to be successful in 2015, Chubb will have to be just as good. That’s because, for the first time in a long time, the Dawgs have a gigantic question mark at quarterback.
Can they beat Alabama by simply pounding the rock? Yes.
Is it more likely that the Crimson Tide would figure out a way to stop such a one sided attack? Absolutely.
One thing is certain: Georgia will get Saban’s best punch. This marks the beginning of a four-game stretch that could make or break the defending conference champion Tide's season. Arkansas lays waiting in the wings, with Texas A&M seven days later. If the Tide can make Chubb obsolete, it’ll carry that momentum into yet another run-heavy slugfest with the Hogs.
As for Texas A&M? The best-case scenario is Georgia wearing out the Alabama defenders, saddling them with an early conference loss before sending them down the road. If that’s the way this one unfolds, the rest of SEC West could benefit.
Yes, Alabama has recovered from a loss to win the SEC not once, but twice in recent history. However, blood in the water is always a welcome sight early in the year. In order to avoid that, the Tide must do Tide-like things.
That is, break Georgia’s spirit, find a suitable replacement at quarterback and unload a heavy dose of Derrick Henry. Do those things and Alabama will have two strong wins early in the season and be primed for yet another banner season in the Southeastern Conference.
Do something different, however, and it could be an October full of frights for Nick Saban.
