Greg Little discusses becoming a leader and being a top recruit

Key quotes from Greg Little interview

"Hand placement is one of the biggest things to me. I do that every day just to have fast hands and put them in the right place to stop a defensive opponent. That’s my biggest thing. It’s just working on hand placement.”

“(Being highly recruited) is like being an average person with a little more pressure. You’ve got to play consistently and be the best consistently through the game. It’s just a little more pressure. When you get beat, everyone’s like, ‘Whoa, he’s not supposed to get beat, because he’s a top player.’ We’re all human. We can make mistakes and get beat sometimes, but at the end of the day, I just have fun and play my game.”

“(The best thing about being a top recruit) is getting close to some people who are trying to become good and get their rankings high -- guys who are younger than me and who look up to me. That’s the fun part about it. It’s seeing kids when you meet them and how happy they are to meet you.”

“(The first practice at Allen without Kyler Murray) wasn’t that weird. As a lineman, all I can do is do my job. The rest is going to have to work its way out. That’s all I can do is block.”

“I try to do the best I can vocally and get the younger guys behind me and at least play somewhat decent – play up to the level that they’re supposed to play at. I have fun. Football is just having fun, but serious all at the same time. I’m just being a role model to those guys who are next to me in the locker room.”

“(Being undefeated in high school) is cool, I guess. It’s nice to know that when you play your best and the players around you play their best – what you can do. It’s cool. Definitely some of the best memories of my life right now are winning those two state championships. That feeling you get when the buzzer goes off letting you know that you’re the best team in the state – that’s the best part about it.”

“(Texas A&M) is getting better each year. There are some guys I know that are going there, so I’ll be comfortable playing there. It’s also in Texas. That’s a big thing. It was a good fit.”

“I’m committed, but I’m still open, so I’m visiting other schools. I’ve got to make the right decision. This is the decision of a lifetime.”

“It took a little time to adjust personality-wise (to new A&M offensive line coach Dave Christensen). As we talk more, I’ll find out more about him. We talk a little bit. He’s a laid back guy that’ll hold you accountable. I’m a guy who’s laid back also, and I’m not a guy who yells all the time. That’s what I like about him. He holds you accountable. You just do your job, and you’re good.”

“I’m excited (for The Opening). I’ve competed against those type of guys before, so it’s nothing new. It’s fun just having fun with all the guys that are as good as you. You meet a lot of new faces, meet a lot of guys just having fun doing the thing you love, which is playing football.”

“I talk to guys out-of-state a lot. Me and Deontay (Anderson) talk almost every day. We’re best friends. I decided to come out here after The Opening for about a week and a half. We talk a lot.”

“(I look to) my mom (for advice). She doesn’t really care about facilities. That’s not a big deal when you go to Allen High School. Facilities are not really that big of a deal. It’s more about the family.”

“I feel like – if you’re good enough – you’ll make the NFL no matter what school you go to. You can go to a DII school to the NFL and have the same career as someone that went to a DI. That doesn’t really make a difference. It’s on you. If you work hard and do the little things right, you should be blessed to go to the NFL one day.”

“(Playing with Kyler Murray) isn’t that big of a factor. I’ve got to do what’s best for me, so it’s not that big of a factor. We talk every day. We play Xbox every day.”

Sounds like he's not truly committed. What else is new?

"we talk a little bit?" What is going on? He should be saying "We skype all the time".

Sumlin needs to inform Christiansen that if you want to Coach in the SEC, then recruiting these caliber of guys is critical!

You can make the NFL from small schools, but your odds are much better at an established football program that has the scouts at the games regularly. Why not improve your draft position by being from a high-profile school with a reputation for developing stud OL?

No one on planet earth other than maybe you thinks there's even a chance he ends up at a"small school "

I'd bet money he ends up at Bama.

Welp, that wasn't the most encouraging interview ever. But, hoping that we hang on to this guy. He's a stud and I hope to see him in maroon and white soon.

Hmm.. sounds like the bagman made the rounds. Facilities arent that important ? Maybe, but high profile players and high profile games help.

Wow, you sound like an unpleasant *****.

I was simply making a point which is what I'm sure our recruiters do in an unaggressive manner.

sounds like he is approaching this as a business decision, which is good for him.

The simple fact of our NFL draft success rate , coupled with nationally televised games and being in the best division of the best conference should propel us forward.

Our main competition also has televised games and plays in the SEC-W, though.

Except that he is obviously considering Bama.

Yeah, Alabama sees your sales pitch and raises you from 2 drafted players to 7 in last year's draft.

Business decision = bad for us.
Playing on his heartstrings for playing in his home state = good for us (assuming he doesn't end up in Austin).

Sounds like he is still "on the fence" with aTm. His recruitment / commitment is likely not over.
