Odds say it had to happen eventually.

At some point, A&M wasn’t going to come back immediately after a loss, only to evaporate their opponents.

Rain delays certainly played a part, but in Sunday’s 8-2 defeat, A&M came out flat and it resulted in their first series loss of the season.

Knowing foul weather was imminent; the game started and lasted all of six minutes before another weather delay halted play.

That was enough time to see A&M commit an error and give up a double while falling behind. On the other side of a two-hour delay, Matt Kent returned to the mound and it was a situation Head coach Rob Childress knew could go either way.

“That’s a tough deal. They made us start the game, knowing full well the weather was going to come. That’s just something we have to do.” Childress said of the delay. “With the long sit, you just never know what you’re going to get.”

What waited on the sunny side of the delay were five more runs for Arkansas before A&M had a chance to come to the plate. All told, it added up to five hits, one error and more insult to injury after the way the previous loss had unfolded.

Things looked as if they may snap back into place in a big way one inning later. With the bases loaded, J.B. Moss took the first pitch he saw to the warning track in left. Before it was caught, everyone in attendance assumed it was going to be a rally inducing grand slam.

Instead, A&M settled for a single run in the frame and were down five without the cushion of a nine-inning contest.

“It’s a game of inches.” Childress said of the near slam. “Moss put a good swing on it and if that gets out, who knows how the game turns out.”

Arkansas added runs in the fourth and sixth innings and while A&M loaded the bases in the sixth, the one run they pulled from it was not nearly enough.

The Aggies struggled at the plate all day Sunday, never getting a lead off man on base in the day’s ten innings. Their problems on the mound, in the field and at the batter’s box led to Arkansas flipping the script after entering the day down five runs.

Now, A&M must look ahead to their Tuesday game against UT-Arlington as a chance for Nick Banks and the Aggies to rebound.

“We have to respond against UTA. The response will really show a lot about our team.” Said Banks on Tuesday’s opportunity. “We hadn’t lost back to back games yet, so we’ll be looking to make a big turnaround.”

His sentiments about their future were echoed from his head coach.

“The most important game of the year is Tuesday,” Childress continued. “I’m not going to focus on next weekend. We need to get this taste out of our mouth on Tuesday and play better.”

Credit Arky, but the Ags played like they wanted a day off.

Arky is a rival. We helped them jump up to maybe 40s in rpi. 20k fans turned out. Horrible fielding and relief pitching (except vinson). Lots to be upset about. Rather this not happen at home on TV.

Just take a deep breath. Remember, "The ball is coming to me, what is my play?" and keep having fun. BTHOuta

I actually do blame the weather. Took away all the momentum in game 2.
