Patrick Lewis with a friendly reminder about O-line U
Perhaps feeling a little sentimental on Friday, former A&M center Patrick Lewis sent out a tweet that predictably had fans of the Aggie OL assembly line self-termed the 'Maroon Goons' — and even future members of it — a bit stoked.
Lewis' picture was of the 2012 Aggie offensive line, holding the Cotton Bowl trophy after A&M's 41-13 Old Yellering of Oklahoma. His tweet: "Why would you want to play OL at any other school?"
For funsies, let's break down that image real quick from left to right:
Tra Carson, Germain Ifedi and Jeff Banks were among those to quickly retweet the photo, along with Aggie Class of 2015 OL recruit Connor Lanfear, who tagged A&M's other three offensive line recruits from the group — Rockwall-Heath's Trevor Elbert, Flower Mound Marcus' Keaton Sutherland and Lufkin's Erik McCoy.
Lanfear, Elbert and Sutherland were all four-star, national top-300 recruits and the 6-3, 300-pound McCoy projects as the Aggies' center of the future.
Out of what we're assuming was mercy for every other school, Lewis didn't touch on that. Nor did he speak of elite 2014 JUCO linemen Avery Gennesy and Jermaine Eluemunor, who are currently competing to anchor another strong Aggie O-line, or latest in the Matthews dynastic line Mike (about to begin his third year as starting center), or Ifedi, who will almost certainly follow Joeckel, Jake Matthews and Ogbuehi's steps from A&M tackle to NFL Draft pick.
Why indeed, Pat.
