Key quotes from Sirr Parker interview

“It was right before I announced, it was a toss up between Washington, Notre Dame and A&M. I was leaning towards Washington, because my favorite player was leaving the University of Washington, Napoleon Kaufman, I was supposedly coming in to be his successor. On the recruiting trips I remember going to Washington and thinking it was an ok trip, but going to A&M, I really felt like it was a better situation and that I felt at home with the teammates.”

“I’m one of the few members of my family not from Texas, so it was really a second home when you think about it. Coming from Los Angeles to Texas, even though College Station isn’t where my family is from, being in the vicinity of family outside of my Los Angeles family played a big role. The team and their parents took me in like I was family, the southern hospitality never gets old to me, because it is a genuine thing with the parents. They feel obligated to take care of you, even if you aren’t their kid.”

“I had a press conference at my school and the news outlets were there, nothing like today but the LA Times and local papers. Once I made the decision, then I called RC. He told me he was in the middle of the press conference and he announced it right there. I got a warm welcome, because I could hear everyone pretty excited with my decision and Coach Slocum seemed pretty excited about it too.

“I think football was a blessing and playing in the NFL was a goal that I set out when I was young and was able to accomplish it, so now it is a been there, done that. Now I look at football as a stepping-stone for what I do now, because in this spectrum of law enforcement, we are reaching out to inner city kids and the fact that I played in the NFL allows me to grab a kid’s attention when they wouldn’t listen otherwise.”

“On Facebook, I have a zillion Aggies who always tell me, I know exactly where I was during this time, my son was at the game, we just named out dog after you, our goldfish, I have all of those. They always figure out a way to post the game winning touchdown on my page, it could be about eating breakfast, and they’ll post that touchdown on my page. As long as A&M doesn't win another conference championship, I’ll be on top.”

Sirr will always be a champion in my book. That championship game he played was incredible. Never get tired of watching that video replay.
