Come on, Gabe! Sandstorm at Kyle Field? ... really, dude?

OK, fine: recruits love it. You will know that factoid more than I. The flipside, though, is that it's simply another cut in the Aggie Spirit, that Aggie uniqueness that sets the 12th Man apart from every other school out there... and every other fan base, including the Seattle Seahawks. Mark my words: if you allow Sandstorm to be played regularly, then there will come a day where some audio/video guru sitting atop Kyle Field will have the official call to trump the 12th Man experience in favor of the same ol' shibunkee that all the other schools do: piped in music. Which is as cheesy and fake as it comes. And lets remember: they do that because they have a lousy, disinterested fanbase to begin with. OR, they've done marketing studies and they know that when music is piped-in at 112 decibels that they will sell 15% more popcorn and softdrink (or some other arcane measurement that is nothing more than a distraction for a fanbase supporting its team).

The 12th Man is flesh and blood. It's real. And recruits see that once they are in the stadium. What's more, deep down in their soul they know they'd love to play in front of such a faithful fanbase. "Sandstorm" or any other piped in music?... not so much. It's simply loud. Recruits can listen to that all they want on their iPod. The 12th Man experience?... only in Kyle Field, baby! You cannot have it both ways.
