Justin Dunning on return from injury, recruiting others

Quotes from Justin Dunning interview

“My summer was big, you know I didn’t participate in any camps or anything for colleges, but I had The Opening and that was big. Then one of our team goals was to make it to the state 7-on-7 tournament and we ended up getting second to a team we really should have beat but that was one of our goals so at least we made it.”

“The injury was big, it was a key part to my career. I don’t think it was a big blow to my mental aspects of the game. The injury really hurt me, but I feel like I have gotten stronger mentally and spiritually, I know I have gotten closer to God.”

“I am actually thankful for the injury because I have become a better person because of it. I know I am going to come back strong and I have had to rehab as hard as possible and God was with me every step of the way.”

“The Opening was great. A lot of guys were sleeping on me, they didn’t think I was going to come out and have the performance that I did, but I know I could do things like that and God had me the whole entire time. I just went out there and had the best performance of my life.”

“I felt like I had something to prove and I had a chip on my shoulder, I had to rehab hard. I think I worked harder this summer than I have ever worked in my life because of the injury.”

“The A&M coaches, they think I am a safety. I feel like I’m a safety, I feel like I’ve made more plays at the safety position, but if linebacker is a calling for me then it’s no big deal. I will go there and play too.”

“The entire 2015 defensive class is amazing. I think A&M has the best class in the nation to be honest. I think there are no limits to what we can do once we get on campus with all the guys we are recruiting, it’s going to be great.”

“It’s not everyday that you get to hang out with the best guys in the nation or even in the state and that was a fun part of The Opening.”

“I think all the commits are trying to get Malik (Jefferson) to join us and you know he is taking his time, but we are working on him.”

Daylon (Mack) is a huge part of this class, a lot of people call him ‘the recruiter’. I think he recruits more than the coaches recruit. The guy loves A&M, he loves College Station, he loves everything about it. He’s definitely one of the greater players to come here.”

“My senior season is very important to me, I feel like right now I’m a better football player then I was this time last year. I have gotten a lot better this summer and I just want to show people that I am 100 percent back, I’m here to play for my team and our team is better than what they think we are.”

“I think I’m pretty much done taking trips, my mom kinda wants me to take a couple officials, but I told her I’m going to Aggieland.”

“Texas is still on me hard, LSU, USC, you know a lot of schools still recruit me.”

“The five stars and the rankings aren’t that important to me but I mean I feel like if a guy is ranked high and he has five stars it’s just a bonus. I don’t need any stars or rankings to tell me how good I am. You can’t take the stars on the field.”

“I don’t think we will miss a beat from 7-on-7. I think our team has what it takes and if we can transfer that into the pads I think we have a chance to going to state.”

As always great job Gabe & Brice!

Loved his comment about star rankings. So humble. IMO sounds like a 5 Star guy on and off the field. A young man of character & class. So happy he will be representing Texas A&M.

Looking forward to Friday with Daylon Mack as well.

Another great interview from a 2015 guy.
One thing that has really stuck out to me in this class is how well these big time players conduct themselves interviews. Usually a class is only good for 1 or 2 players that have this much charisma. Add Malik to the mix & this will really be something special.
